May 8, 2011 - Hey, spacechief! Bite me. This was an amazing production. It may not be what you're used to, but that doesn't make it bad. I think there's room for more than one interpretation. Sally Ann Howes is a great singer and a great actress. If you don't like it, listen to something else instead of making intentionally obtuse remarks. When you have starred in a bunch of movies and have sung all over the world, let me know. I'll be happy to listen to what you have to say, then.

May 25, 2011 - Sally Ann Howes: when I was a kid, she was on panel shows. A TV personality to me. Little did I know of her experience and talent even as a very young performer. And here the more mature Ms. Howes in a stunning bit of acting as well as singing. Turn off the sound and watch the face. Desiree keeps her composure as her dreams crumble, while any viewer who has gone through the same thing is ready either to scream or cry. A great interpretation along with that of Glynis Johns.

Jun 13, 2011 - this is absolutely the BEST version on UTube. Better than bernadette's overacting, better than barbra's added lyrics, just perfect. She enunciates so clearly how could you think "poo"? she's lovely!!!

Jul 5, 2011 - This is superlative. Completely in character because recorded from her stage performance. Vocally and emotionally moving and flawless. Underplayed, really. Enormously affecting. My favorite of all the stage versions, including Dame Dench's.Streisand's version, with those somewhat disconcerting added lyrics (they work, but not for "purists"), is still the most emotionally rewarding and vocally unique version, for me.And Judy Collins' original "pop" release the purest, simplest and intimate.

AtLastOnTheGround Says:
May 28, 2012 - Fredrik asked Desiree to marry him many years ago when they were still young, but she declined because she still wanted to "tear around". Now, decades later, he's married to a beautiful (but stupid) 18 year old girl and Desiree tries to win him from her. She fails -- he loves Desiree but he wants to stay with his wife. She sings about how she has mistimed her life, and how "there ought to be clowns" in this absurdly ironic, foolish situation ... but she and Fredrik are the clowns, the fools.

opera888able Says:
Apr 25, 2011 - It is a bit plummy and " correct " when you compare it to other versions, but there'sno denying she gives a great song even more class. And she will no doubt have had the approval of Maestro Sondheim.
