Title: This Week in Space 10 - March 12, 2010

Added: Mar 13, 2010

Author: spaceflightnow

Duration: 25:28

Description:
"IMAX: Hubble 3D" debuts at the Air and Space Museum...we give it the "red carpet" treatment - checking out the movie, checking in with the astronaut stars, listening to the star who voiced it over - Leonardo DiCaprio, and weighing in with the director and the NASA brass about the wow-factor of the IMAX experience. Also: a Falcon 9 "hot fire" disappoints, the shuttle program manager says "no problem" for shuttle to keep flying, and safely -- it's only a question of money -- and Obama gets ready to speak up for his controversial new plan for NASA...and braces for what promises to be a firestorm of protest at planned April 15 conference on the future of America's space program.

Mar 14, 2010 - NASA needs a grand vision that Obama and Bolden are not communicating with any clarity to the public. You can't take the Space Ship out of the NASA formula in the public mind and tell them TAXIS some 5 years from now will do. Its like telling the U.S. NAVY to rent ships from Cruse liners. Bolden got his ass kicked on the Hill in front of so many Congress people because even they see PANIC in this awful plan for NASA. Where is the NEXT destination? The Moon said Bolden. Is this man on Drugs?

Mar 14, 2010 - I see you still have that excessively busy background, straining video CODECs.

Atlantis135 Says:

Mar 14, 2010 - From my point of view USA needs to rebuild the Saturn-V. This could be the best solution for having a suitable new HLV.

Davidgojr Says:

Mar 14, 2010 - This excellent show needs to get on TV as well for wider distribution. I could see this doing very well on Discovery or Science Channel. 5 stars!

Kapitananime Says:

Mar 15, 2010 - The Ares V would be much easier to build, as the engines and for that rocket exist today. The Ares V can send more payload into orbit and the moon. The factory that built the F-1 engines for the Saturn V does not exist.

Mar 15, 2010 - Great show! Keep them coming!! :)

oRayUKo Says:

Mar 15, 2010 - Hate these bloody adverts at the beginning...Would it really be so bad to keep something sacred

MrSpaceartist Says:

Mar 15, 2010 - I have to see this imax movie!

milesobrien3 Says:

Mar 16, 2010 - In this case sacred would mean no show at all. Sorry but we are not independently wealthy - and people really don't want to pay for what they see on the web. So there's the rub that proves the old adage that nothing is, in fact, "sacred".

davidgwaters Says:

Mar 16, 2010 - oRayUKo, The four of us producing this show are volunteers. The few ads we have are keeping us on. It's either that or TWIS disappears, so I'm sure you understand.

oRayUKo Says:

Mar 16, 2010 - I see - I left that comment because for a few years there has been no ads on any video's... now we see them at the bottom of many videos while their playing... and now you cant view a lot of YT videos at all unless you watch an ad first. Its a shame, but I understand how the world works - and I really thought your videos we're actualy a tv program uploaded to youtube (arguably wouldn't make it right) but to great credit to your professionalismMy appologies. I was a subcriber already.

henik9 Says:

Mar 17, 2010 - Yeah I am definitely seeing the Hubble 3D movie the opening day..

milesobrien3 Says:

Mar 19, 2010 - I wish there were a better way. Thanks for your forbearance with our efforts to "pay the rent".

Mar 22, 2010 - From here on out i will not partake in the use or purchasing of any item or service i see advertised on youtube! please join me and help keep ads from killing youtube. boycott with me people

milesobrien3 Says:

Mar 26, 2010 - Do you have any suggestions on how we might pay for our production? I don't suppose you would pay a subscription fee...

robinh66 Says:

Mar 26, 2010 - 1. Put a PayPal "tip jar" on the main site. Suggest donating during the 'cast.2. Get sponsors. I don't think most people would mind watching a short ad if it's something space geeks would be interested in and as long as it wasn't right i the middle. I know several podcasts that are sponsored and just have a very short 10-15 second add at the end in the 'cast. Not intrusive.

robinh66 Says:

Mar 26, 2010 - BTW, I get the video via podcast, I don't see any adds. That's not the "reason" I get the podcast, nothing against YouTube, I just prefer the delivery.

GETitYAdig42 Says:

May 10, 2010 - miles, first off you're the man and i love your show. secondly if i had money to spare and wasn't a poor college student yes i would be very willing. Lastly i apologize, i didn't know the adds youtube throws up on the videos helped pay for productions like yours.

Jun 18, 2011 - Last estimate for the Ares getting done was the late 2020's. The Saturn 5 was built in less time than that.
