May 10, 2012 - I also didn't like his tone when he referred Toms shoes (i might be bias here). He stereotypes them by stating that they give shoes to "some African nation". Yeah they have given shoes to African Nations, but the founder's inspiration were shoeless kids in Argentina (and they have given to kids in United States). It doesn't affect the point he wanted to make, yeah they make a business out of that, but I feel he was stereotyping and simplifying too much to make his point.

HamidKarzai Says:

May 10, 2012 - Whether your charity is smart or not, it still requires money, and that money is going to come directly (from people like Soros) or indirectly (from your charitable average Joe) from profits made by capitalist exploitation. The same exploitation that creates the very people who need charity! By providing charity you ameliorate the problems created by capitalism, and in doing so you prolong capitalism's lifespan, which will go on to create more poverty.

Threewisejavi Says:

May 10, 2012 - That would be case if capitalism was intrinsically bad, which is not. It's not perfect either, and this is were regulation and laws are implemented to (in theory) try to fix the imperfections. And so poverty is not intrinsically related to capitalism exploitation. Many times it's due to corrupt governments, social-political movements or laws which isolate a group of people, discrimination, exploitation (regardless of economical structure), charity is not really directly related to any of these.

May 12, 2012 - Ron Paul to speak in RSA Animate!

Jointknight Says:

May 13, 2012 - Hmm. Interesting accent. Passionate.I would like to believe this is a better idea and that somehow socialism/marism/leninism/modern humanism or any ism for that matter will help us create a better world. But we aren't interested in the most important thing in our lives. Our own happiness. That happiness is found in denying yourself and living for others. And Slavoj is correct not in a superficial way.Moral joy, physical conscious empathy these aren't found in politics/science, only Jesus.

simeonasmith Says:

May 13, 2012 - Half of the things he says is misunderstood.. when he says 'gesture' they transcribe 'cluster'... These people need to hear more Slovenglish!

Omnamah Shivaya Says:

May 14, 2012 - Wow, what? Did you not watch the Kony2012 video that went viral? They spend something like half the film saying how they want to create a complete change in social attitudes.Get off that bandwagon.

redriverhautbois Says:

May 14, 2012 - No

dat3tree Says:

May 14, 2012 - This guy knows ways up. I agree 100%. I love it web he says "no bullshit"

myfanwyd2005 Says:

May 15, 2012 - People need voices and to be listened to.

myfanwyd2005 Says:

May 15, 2012 - Charity is needed on the belief that we have not enough work for all. Do we have enough work for all? Can we feel valued in our work? Do national 'map' 'paper' boundaries prevent some movement of people to employment. Heavy migration would completely change our market groupings.

myfanwyd2005 Says:

May 15, 2012 - Charity does prevent death.Society is colourful, charity has a place. How nations spend their money on welfare is interesting. Some people are third generation welfare payments. Charity can free someone up, but can also stagnate. We can sustain allinto the future regardless of these concerns.

MrRtek84 Says:

May 16, 2012 - why?

redriverhautbois Says:

May 16, 2012 - A. Because Ron Paul is a politician, not an intellectual.B. Because his ideology is belligerent and markets itself to belligerent people.

rashikirilova Says:

May 17, 2012 - What working alternatives are there to capitalism? Can you recommend me an introduction to diffeent economies, probably a textbook or something like that? Thanks in advance.

fullfist Says:

May 22, 2012 - All this, helping the community. I always thought it was the taxes are supposed to do that.

fackajna Says:

May 22, 2012 - Yes but their plan didn't work so well... As Žižek says, we need something new, a reformation of the entire system but something that is not communism. I don't really understand what that would be

ReemKhurshid Says:

May 23, 2012 - Seriously? Saying is one thing - doing is another. Despite their claims the whole campaign is predicated on maintaining/reinforcing notions of a marginalized and manipulated populace, Empire and the Global North's relationship to the Global South. Sure, it's been nicely repackaged to appeal to the consumer of 2012 - but it's the same old hegemonic story.

Omnamah Shivaya Says:

May 23, 2012 - What makes you think that? What makes K2012 so imperialistic? It's aim is to stop sectors of the population being marginalised and manipulated. Sure, they support the US sending advisors to held the Ugandan military, but what other alternative is there? The US has the most sophisticated military knowledge in the world, and the Ugandan military, for all the allegations against them, are the sovereign force in the region.

Omnamah Shivaya Says:

May 23, 2012 - (Not forgetting that LRA activity is not that heavy in Uganda now and in other regions, meaning its not as simple as just aiding the Ugandan military.)Publicity of the LRA's crimes is not a bad thing. And proving that when enough people get behind something they can change the actions of tyrants, is not a bad thing.

HamidKarzai Says:

May 28, 2012 - There's only one working alternative that I'm aware of, and that's socialism. Socialist ideologies are usually anarchist or communist. I recommend looking up "An Anarchist FAQ", it's a good resource. I'm not sure about communism, I guess the Communist Manifesto is a good place to start. I'd also recommend reading Marx's Capital. Capital only deals with capitalism, but it should give you an in-depth understanding of the way the current system works, and you can better judge alternative economies.

cutiecookie23 Says:

May 28, 2012 - I love it that I already understood this myself while growing up. Most of what he says is correct. We do what we are told is right and what we are told is the right buissness. Although spending money to help starving children is great! You can do more and something diffrernt that can benifit even more. On that note, A.) I only buy local fruits. b.) I do however buy organic boxed goods like cereals, chips etc. NOT because its the right hing to do, but I find it as a "hobbie".

myfanwyd2005 Says:

May 28, 2012 - At present I am just commenting without sources in front of me. I am reading J Krishnamurti. In my opinion, charity has a place and so does working. Not all things are working quite right and we look after our own, don't we?Charity can cause dependence, sort of like 'married' to charity & there is a need for a counterbalance. We do need change in systems & ways to help. The ones needing help cannot be forced into different types of charity. The ones needing help will tell you what they need.

1991Hrvat Says:

May 29, 2012 - Its not that i disagree with the man , its just i dont really see what he ` proposing` we do about this.To me it seems the current system is better then nothing ( which he himself also states in the sound clip) obviously its not perfect but i feel as it is the best people WANT to do , i really dont think people in the ` west` WANT to do more then this.
