Title: Water Vines
Added: Dec 5, 2009
Author: Colhane
Duration: 4:24
Description:
Today I finally got out to the bush for the first time since moving back to Brazil with my good friend Giuliano Toniolo (guitoniolo here on YT http://www.youtube.com/user/giutoniolo). It has been great trading information back and forth with someone who is familiar with Central Brazilian wilderness survival and bush craft. We will be learning a lot from each other.Today he took the time to point out water vines. These are a great resource for quenching your thirst in the jungle. The amount of water you get from the vines varies between wet and dry seasons but the water is pure and does not need to be filtered or treated.

Dec 6, 2009 - can you drink water from any vine or are there some that are poisonus?
giutoniolo Says:
Dec 6, 2009 - There are poisonous types yes, however I´ve never heard of anybody dying for drinking it cause you can tell right on spot it´s not potable, so if you drink it, your looking for trouble! It´s gotta taste like water so you can try it with a few drops! If it´s bitter stay away from it bro!
Colhane Says:
Dec 6, 2009 - Giuliano gave a very good answer above. The only vines you can be really confused by here are the ones that run with clear water but have a horrible bitter taste. Other vines have a white latex looking sap that is a severe irritant that you would never mistake for water. Remember, we are in the central Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and the information in this video is specific to our region.

Dec 9, 2009 - Man I envy you. You are doing Gods work, doing what you enjoy, and enjoying the jungle all at the same time. I'm a country boy trapped in the city, wanting to get out and enjoy the out doors and If I could do Gods work at the same time Wow want a life. By the way I tested my Kukri machette this weekend, it went through a 3 inch cedar in just a few hits. Thanks for the modifications.

Dec 9, 2009 - Great video! Jungle survival training in the USMC also taught me some of the same things and I do recall the Thorn covered vine, it will sustain you but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. This brought back many memories!
