Aug 7, 2011 - I'm white. I heard The Last Poets when I was pretty young. I was also involved in the punk/wave scene from the beginning to the end. When I heard The Last Poets I was ecstatic - this was truly an art form; it had an authentic voice. What I hear now is rap polluted by the same forces that always try to co-opt authentic art for commerciality. There's only a few people I really would put in the same class and tradition as The Last Poets.Kids need to learn this stuff.Thx for posting it.
