Description:
Lecture 1 of Leonard Susskind's Modern Physics concentrating on General Relativity. Recorded September 22, 2008 at Stanford University. This Stanford Continuing Studies course is the fourth of a six-quarter sequence of classes exploring the essential theoretical foundations of modern physics. The topics covered in this course focus on classical mechanics. RageSchism Says:

May 22, 2012 - This is so painful to read. Run-on sentences, lack of question marks, no periods and apostrophe abuse. You can type whatever you want in reply, I'm the one that's having fun with you.

DrFruedienslip Says:

May 22, 2012 - You have been scripted by a programing called social subjugation or something like that, you know that there is no meaning to life dont you? So why be so compedative? Who cares about punctuation did your english mess with your head or something? Perfectionism runs deep in people doesnt it?

DrFruedienslip Says:

May 22, 2012 - You should watch Monty Python, Holy Grail, or a better movie called You Cant Take it with you, watch it when you are stoned, its a great movie if you know how to read the lines regarding any Intrinsic Arts.

DrFruedienslip Says:

May 22, 2012 - What people do not realize is that the theory of relativity is suppositional regarding how no one knows reality, defining reality can only be exemplified on a quantum plane, this is what metaphysical science can and will furnish, as there can be such a thing as a end regarding what we are doing when one day we run out of energy resources, think about it, physics of human the union, 7 bil people, which was 3 bil in 1960, what will it be in 100 years and how will we manage economics'

filmftw3 Says:

May 24, 2012 - yeah but it took Einstein to put it all together

Bill Brasky Says:

May 24, 2012 - Einstein worked in a patent office and probably stole the compilation from the actual person. Murder was probably involved as the jews murder people all the time such as JFK.

epirvsflavivs Says:

May 25, 2012 - oh no, how did this kind of rambling rant get to this video?

Bill Brasky Says:

May 25, 2012 - the jews are commanded by the Talmud to murder the best of the gentiles such as JFK. No jews in history even come close to the best of the gentiles.

IbeTruthy Says:

May 25, 2012 - does it matter.

IbeTruthy Says:

May 25, 2012 - im watching this as a freshman in high school cuz it is interesting and im bored

lsbrother Says:

May 26, 2012 - were these lectures given to students at Stanford or to a wider audience? I ask as he said 'tonight we ...", and I thought it must be unusual to be giving evening lectures to 'real' students (but maybe I'm wrong?)

ScienceofWinning Says:

May 26, 2012 - g = 9.81m/s^2 (at the surface of Earth)--he wasn't wrong to say 10m/s^2, many people use 10 to approximate when doing example problems in their head, but I thought that a more specific rounding might help some people who might not already know.

Jipzorowns Says:

May 27, 2012 - It's continious learning. People have to pay a little bit of money to attent. Many of these people are between 40 and 80. some are even 90!

lsbrother Says:

May 27, 2012 - ah, thanks for that. So he gives these in addition to his normal work - a real enthuisiast!

lnpkural Says:

May 27, 2012 - Hum. Lot of 'I don't know´..

Hypntotoad Says:

May 28, 2012 - Einsteins stolen theory has been disqualified. Mass has been repeatably observed exceeding light speed, and his whole theorem is ludicrous > Time to discard the old stumbling blocks and make some real progress in physics.. All jews are not automatically geniuses and Albert Einstein was far from a genius. He was according to all real accounts a backward child with substandard grades indicating an approximate iq of around 70, and an inability to take care of himself>

Hypntotoad Says:

May 28, 2012 - Did you know that in his most famous formula E=MC2 that he simply made up the velocity of light part, admitting (at teals his wife who wrote his 'work' did) that "C" was used simply to demote a 'very large number'. This is ludicrous physics!!

Hypntotoad Says:

May 28, 2012 - If you don't know, sit down and shut up. for the most part what i see in this guy is a need to apply a lot more ear and a lot less lip. He doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground

ScienceofWinning Says:

May 28, 2012 - Did you know that that is as wrong as when people say that Einstein was a devout Christian? Hippolyte Fizeau was the first to try & measure the speed of light in 1849 (he was off by a good margin, & you can read about how he did it yourself, if you want). Later, a scientist named Michelson in 1926 used a rotating prism to measure the speed of light, & he was very close (299,796km/s as opposed to 299,792,458m/s). Nowadays, Maxwell's Equation is a good place to look if you want a solid prediction.

ScienceofWinning Says:

May 28, 2012 - In summary, Einstein did't come up with the speed of light, he merely used it to make an incredibly accurate prediction that has worked in every instance we have used it yet. So far as we can tell, 299,792,458m/s IS the cosmological speed limit, especially since we've actually measured particles in the LHC move more slowly in time as they approached this speed limit (to keep them from surpassing it). We know they were going more slowly through time because they decayed MUCH slower than normal.

Jipzorowns Says:

May 28, 2012 - I think so, yes!

epirvsflavivs Says:

May 28, 2012 - You don't even know what your position is. "Einstein probably stole the compilation from the actual person"? Not to mention the almost unbelievably bizarre leaps to completely unrelented things like zoroaster and who killed JFK. Unfathomable.

Bill Brasky Says:

May 29, 2012 - if you cannot even fathom the real history then good luck with the Universe.

epirvsflavivs Says:

May 29, 2012 - You can reread what I wrote (my comment is still here): the unfanthomable thing is not real history but your incoherent reasoning and logic. Anyway, thank you for the discussion.
