Description:
Iraq sees surge in bombings after US withdrawal To see more go to http://www.youtube.com/user/journeymanpicturesFollow us on Facebook (http://goo.gl/YRw42) or Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/journeymanvod)As Sunni-led violence returns to Iraq we take a look at life in the Sunni heartland of Tikrit. The population are deeply unhappy with the Shia government and are blaming their troubles on its rampant corruption.Iraq may be safer but not much has changed since the country became democratic. Underdevelopment is evident throughout the country. A fifth of the population cannot read or write and many are unemployed. "We don't produce anything. We need private investors from other countries for development", says one man. Tax revenues barely exist and much of the money disappears through corruption: "no one trusts the government". Al Qaeda remains a threat and lack of funding means that security forces are stretched to the limit. In al Alam, people want more autonomy and independence from the Shiite-dominated government in Baghdad. The mistrust is partly because the Sunnis are degraded from power and with US troops now out of the country this political-sectarian conflict may again escalate into violence. The Iraqi government has also been unable to deliver any progress, despite billions of dollars in foreign aid. For Yasim al Juburi, the chairman of the al Alam municipal council, the situation is bleak. "What has Iraq achieved? The answer is nothing". January 2012

Feb 6, 2012 - Nothing outweighs the death of 1 million Iraqis. You are a brainwashed slave to your government and clearly have been moulded into your masters image.

TikiBillaBong1 Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - If anybody is brainwashed it's you. For some reason you think war is suppose to be peaceful. You're an idiot. Maybe if the Taliban stop hiding behind civilians, innocent people wouldn't die. You know nothing about war. All you know is what the news tells you. Your a joke to question and disrespect me, a soldier. Get a fucking life kid.

Hperman09 Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - Bush Sr said if we gone into Baghdad in 1991 and take down Saddam's regime, it would have been the same as the 2003 Iraq War. A tribal civil war would have erupted, thousands of Allied casuatlies, and would have been stuck for years trying to rebuild Iraq in a never ending civil war. Now since US forces left Iraq in 2011, there are some doubt how strong the new democratic Iraqi government can stand on their own. As Cheney said in 1994, the "quagmire" and "pieces of Iraq fly off" had come true.

Hperman09 Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - Well, U.S. and Allied forces had successfully take down Saddam's regime in 2003 but at the same time, we mistakenly open up a Pandora's Box. Iraq is still in the midst of sectarian violence, the suicide bombings against religions factions still exists backed by Iran and now Al-Qaeda has a foothold in Iraq, targeting civilians. IMO, Iraq is a dump now and so does rest of the middle east because basically the whole region there is a quagmire. We should not gone into Iraq at all.

TikiBillaBong1 Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - We only can help or do so mush over there. I'm glad we left, let them fucking kill each other.

Hperman09 Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - Agreed, It's Iraq's problem now, either stand with the new government or get killed by a bunch of insurgents. The whole middle east is nothing but a damn quagmire. No Arab nations would accept a western style democracy. While the U.S. is to blame for letting the insurgencies happened in 2003, they were no the cause for it since the Shia and Sunnis hate each other for thousands of years.

fightinside1 Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - So iraqis do you want the US in or out? make up your minds!

str8manchester Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - U lil fag what has taliban got to do with this?? We're talking about Iraq. The iraqis have every right to resist the occupation. USA invaded Iraq based on a pack of lies, Iraq had no WMDs, no link to 9/11 or al qaeda! WHat would you do if a country invaded USA on a pack of lies?? Would you welcome them?? I think not!! It works both ways you fucking hypocrite and I AM VERY HAPPY you all got destroyed and traumatisd by the brave Iraqi resistance usings RPGs. IEDs and AKs!!

saknk1 Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - independent how was done with the USA invasion if was right or wrong , i did not agree with the war , but the Iraq people have couple of choices now , they can try something better or rise a new Sadan and go the same old way !

TikiBillaBong1 Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - Hahaha that Iraqi resistance was absolutely destroyed by the U.S. If you can't answer the fact on why we toppled Al Qaeda then you are a fucking idiot. Do what your country does best and retreat and let the big boys handle things.

str8manchester Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - Destroyed??? hahahah! dont you remember when you had to pay off alot of insurgents to stop attacking you?? Of course you dont. That still didnt work! Remember when Bush and co planned to establish 3 permanent bases in Iraq for at least a hundred years but in 2008 he decided to withdraw all troops?? Of course you dont! What will you do if another country invaded your country on a pack of lies?? Will you welcome them with roses?? Of course not. You hypocritical redneck!

str8manchester Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - withdraw all troops for end of 2011*

str8manchester Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - It is not easy to establish a peaceful soverign country when there are 10,000 US soldiers, FBI and CIA agents in the new American embassy in Baghdad. They are obviously pulling the strings otherwise they will just have 300/400 people in the embassy like all other other embassies!

str8manchester Says:

Feb 7, 2012 - LOL at Al Qaeda!! They were not the main resistance! There were hundreds of resistance groups, most of the resistance were normal everyday Iraqis, fighting for their land, country, honour and sovereignty! Just like you and everyday Americans will do if your country was invaded.

MBC4HD Says:

Feb 10, 2012 - LONG LIVE IRAQ >:)

DHarri9977 Says:

Feb 14, 2012 - A true democracy should include decentralization on a local level so as to better distribute and manage the funding that would raise the economic conditions within these provinces. This would stimulate the economy in creating jobs while also promoting educational programs that would benefit these societies while promoting autonomy and a better quality of life which was the whole point of the war in the first place.

DHarri9977 Says:

Feb 14, 2012 - Whats so funny people are living in poverty and you're worried about the past, you need to open your eyes and look to the future. This is this country's chance to become a normal society without the tyranny that existed under Saddam. American's want these people to have a better life and to grow as a people and be happy.

str8manchester Says:

Feb 14, 2012 - Mate even today America are still orchestrating terror in Iraq and influencing the behaviour of the Iraqi government. There are 10,000 soldiers, CIA and FBI agents in the US embassy in Baghdad as we speak. They are clearly still pulling the strings over there and till they leave and leave 300/400 people in their embassy like all other embassies then Iraq qill be soverign and will be able to be 100% responsible for the stuff that happens in the country.

str8manchester Says:

Feb 14, 2012 - And dont think for a moment that the victims of the million Iraqis dead and all the deformed babies that are being born everyday in Fallujah because of depleted uranium will forgive and forget what the occupies did to them and their country. If your kid, mother, sister etc got blown up for fuck all, you wont either! You cant expect Iraqis to move on like nothing has heppened, they will eventually but its too soon! For now they are trying to recover, then they can look at the future.

DHarri9977 Says:

Feb 14, 2012 - At the end of the day they still have a chance of a better life today then they did under Saddam. I don't wish any harm to any of the civilians caught up in this war they need to figure out a way to distribute and manage their funds. They are currently expanding and correcting the bottlenecks associated with their oil supplies its up to the leadership of this country to not be greedy and take care of its people. Its terrible to think Saddam was starving his people

brouhahabob Says:

Mar 9, 2012 - They are all saying they need a more decentralized government. I think we need the same here in the US, too.

IQTOON Says:

Mar 20, 2012 - i loveeeee saddam hussin

beauceron Says:

Apr 1, 2012 - 5:40-- now that's a nappy suit, bro!

sass225 Says:

Apr 23, 2012 - Best equipment to detect ieds is the human eye and K-9s trained to detect explosives. Iraq has the second largest oil supply in the world there is no reason anyone in iraq should go hungry

IraqDiaspora Says:

May 22, 2012 - Long live Iraq, Uruk, "land between the two rivers", cradle of civilizations, birthplace of empires: Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians Chaldeans, home of prophets and patriarchs, centre of civilization, culture and learning... live forever our mother
