Feb 29, 2012 - Compassion is very powerful indeed. Thank you for this and also your insights into different perspectives. I hope that more people can tap into the power of compassion. You are right, our society often views compassionate acts as being weak and they teaches us from a very young age that we must be aggressive, loud, outspoken and all the rest to get noticed to get noticed in this world. The truth is there is more power in small ounce of compassion than there is in a large amount of aggression.

Mar 2, 2012 - That is very interesting what you said. Do you agree with me that we humans must love animals equally much as we love other humans and more? The Buddha encounterd all types of animals in the dschungle and he sat with them in meditation. Gigantic constrictor snakes cam up to him and smelled on him. He radiated eternal love to them and they liked it, they needed it just as much as we humans need love. No animal ever hurt him because he gave them infinite and unconditional love.
KennyReddwooddforest Says:
Mar 2, 2012 - Yes, this makes us human. But what makes us superhuman is unconditional love for all beings, animals and humans equally much.

Mar 2, 2012 - Sakyong Mipham, Do you love animals equally much as you love humans? Rodney Smith, a Buddhist teacher in Washington state, was talking about the Satipatthana Sutta, the third foundation and the compassion of the Buddha towards all beings, he talked about the Buddha giving himself to a lion at the end of his life. Yet he said to the audience that he does not expect them to do the same. But he expects people to run after a little girl who wandered into traffic. Would you run after a puppy dog?
