Apr 4, 2008 - have to be a thermoplastic sealant 1/3 of a tube per corner and spread an even coat 1/2 thickness with your fingers (GET THEM DIRTY)
irisheyes10139 Says:
Nov 13, 2008 - there shouldn't be any water in your gutters if there installed right.. "the gutter guy"
AsktheBuilder Says:
Nov 13, 2008 - Correct. But sometimes houses settle or water collects for other reasons. That wasn't the point of the video. The point was when you have a leak, here's one way to repair it. Many houses have this problem for whatever reason. Your comment is like saying, "If everyone drove safely, there would never be any accidents." That's not real world.

Nov 25, 2008 - I normally stick gummy bears over the cracks. It seems to have worked really well so far.
AsktheBuilder Says:
Nov 26, 2008 - Next time try Orbit spearmint gum. It really holds up better against UV radiation. It also has a higher coefficient of continuity.
Hirade61 Says:
Jan 26, 2009 - I have sealed alot of gutter joints in my days and I take a hard wire brush and scratch the hell out of the seam, clean it and put a thick layer of polyurethane caulking over the joint and finger it in. Works like a charm...
ReligiousZombie Says:
Mar 22, 2009 - I'll have to try this. I've been using regular silicone caulking, which doesn't do a damn thing to stop the leaks.
viletantrum Says:
May 30, 2009 - Aluminum gutter seal in a tube works. Anything that has elasticity to it. The law of expansion and contraction doesn't effect it.
AsktheBuilder Says:
May 31, 2009 - That's not entirely true. The aluminum gutter seal will fail at some point - it can only expand so much. But it's failure point is far beyond the expansion of a normal gutter.
Chukwudebe Says:
Jul 10, 2009 - roofing cement works best on any gutter and works alright in wet conditions as well. Apply a generous amount on the leaky area and your problems will vanish. It's also a lot cheaper than those specialty glues and adhesives.
AsktheBuilder Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - It's cheaper for a reason. It's not a permanent fix by any means.
Naphorse Says:
Sep 3, 2009 - The Main reason why people have leaks iis because the Water aint flowing to the Gutter destination and it stays in the corner and gets threw. #1 have 2 or 3 Gutter ways #2 Angle eavestrough correctly WATER TEST it before you set it up#3 sit back and enjoy summer :)
rhblakeman Says:
Sep 20, 2009 - I use a heat gun to warm the area up after it's washed to make sure the moisture is out from both the surface and the lap and if doing this during cool weather it helps the sealer to adhere better and you can warm the sealer a bit from the outside of the gutter (not too close you'll burn the paint) and it causes to to start curing better especially if the outdoor temp is below 70 at night.

Oct 23, 2009 - Silicone for gutters, just doesn't work. One nice thing about it, when it fails a year later you can rip it out in one long strip.

Nov 2, 2009 - I really like how you answer comments, Thank you.
seasonedtoker Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - if you don't know what exactly to use then use neutral silicone or better yet some polyurethane sealant. no mess, tiny amounts and it's flexible and durable enough to survive at least three years. and also cheaper

Jun 16, 2010 - solar seal is the best

Dec 30, 2010 - Very crisply explained. Thank you very much for sharing this video.
bertscafe Says:
Feb 3, 2011 - The best way to fix a leak is to remove all the old caulking ,clean it up with laquer thinner, apply proffesional caulking (tremco) . This procedure should last about 10 years. The reason is that the Tremco stays flexible throughout that time,of course once it really hardens the seal will cracK again because of the expandtion & contraction process which takes place bettween Summer & Winter. Tar,Poxies,Silicones are a totally a no,no .We make a lot of money on people who try dumb things.
AsktheBuilder Says:
Feb 3, 2011 - Or you can follow the instructions in my video and use the sealant recommended by the gutter manufacturer. Just saying.....
TheJayjudith Says:
Apr 18, 2011 - WIsh I had read this 3-4 years ago. I used that paint on sealer - stopped working this spring.
MrHeadshot1982 Says:
Oct 27, 2011 - thats what i use.

emutiny Says:
Nov 18, 2007 - Looks like you might need a little more slope on your gutter. I take gutters down alot when replacing facia rot and I usually just use some silicone on the seams when i put them back up. I will look into the gutter sealer stuff though.
