May 30, 2011 - Great show Dave! I have learned so much from watching this series. I am also a recording school student, and stoked at how much of the info is very supplemental to what I study and learn more of every day. I feel very lucky to have such a wealth of info at my finger tips while I am honing my craft in preparation of my career. Thanks again guys, and keep it up!

Jun 2, 2011 - The loudness wars still have a negative effect on the sound quality of many records. I could go on and on listing records that would sound more open and impactful if they weren't pushed so hard, Gardner or not. I don't think it's an issue of it being universally accepted as sounding good, but universally accepted as a necessary practice to compete. Even top engineers make sacrifices for loudness; sculpting into its corner, making decisions based on how to get it louder, but not always better.

Jul 4, 2011 - funny Dave, I'm a chauffeur(when I'm not behind a mac) and I drive brats around, and they all love the loud hip hop station. As an aspiring producer, sometimes the songs on these stations actually catch my ear and I find myself jamming out like a high school kid. This song caught me just like it did you, I couldn't believe how slick the mix was. Wiz was the same way.

Jan 1, 2012 - I couldn't help but wonder with all the compression being used if you aren't taking away the Mastering Engineers duty and essentially giving them less to work with. I use parallel compression when needed not as a rule of thumb. Just curious. Great show as always.

Jan 2, 2012 - PS, regarding the loudness wars. Since I am a, uh hmm, older listener I have to say the problem with the loudness thing is ear fatigue. I can't listen to more than 4 or 5 songs on many new records before I have to turn it off. I'm not the only one who has noticed this and some say it has contributed to the decline of record sales.
