May 20, 2009 - Very possibly my favorite song of all time. Well, if you take away The Beatles.

Spiv62 Says:

Aug 6, 2009 - Good music, but the worst name for a band.

pernicketty Says:

Aug 12, 2009 - Up there with Big Star in the great bands with badly-chosen names stakes.

pernicketty Says:

Aug 12, 2009 - Oh... and the Shoes!

Spiv62 Says:

Aug 23, 2009 - and The Jags!

pernicketty Says:

Aug 23, 2009 - 'Back of Hand' of great! Did they have any other songs?

Spiv62 Says:

Sep 1, 2009 - I don't know any other Jag songs. On the thread of badly-chosen names stakes, how about the Plimsouls? gotta beat shoes.

pernicketty Says:

Sep 1, 2009 - Yea, I thought of them but for me Shoes is about as mundane and forgettable as a name can get. Apparently they chose it because of a comment Paul McCartney once made about how the Beatles might just as easily have called themselves The Shoes. That might have seemed like a cute idea to them but the rest of the world didn't get the joke. Other seventies powerpop bands with badly-chosen names - Pezband (anyone seen my pez?) and 20/20.

GaryBoy54 Says:

Sep 23, 2009 - Saw them open for Joe Jackson in Asbury Park in 79 and THEY STOLE THE SHOW.After all that time seeing this now is incredibly great!

dennyandpennie Says:

Nov 14, 2010 - yeah everything else Elvis Costello did LOL

dennyandpennie Says:

Nov 15, 2010 - Really think so? Poor John. He was really the only one in the band that could sing so on the road things were tough for him. I guess Huw Gower did the harmony live but thats a name you NEVER want to bring up to Johnny. NEVER!

crosscatch Says:

Apr 18, 2011 - Actually, it could be a good name. Beatles press confrence: It's just a name like shoe. "See, would could be called the shoes for all you know".

Jan 16, 2012 - Great job posting this video with the original (and best) recorded version. And yeah, great to see all the others who appreciate this underdog band.Funny how many pre-internet band's names swamp them in searches done today.Back to the music: Shoes, 20/20, the Pop, Raspberries, Nervous Eaters... and of course Big Star!I So miss the smell of a freshly-opened vinyl record and all that artwork. Thanks again persnickety! I re-posted on my FB site and learned how many friends also LOVE thus tune.

Jan 16, 2012 - Thanks Dave, you're obviously a man who appreciates good powerpop! And yea, I miss the record sleeve artwork too. Even picture sleeve singles look way better than CD cases.

Multi80schick Says:

May 21, 2012 - I have a few of this band's albums, and they're worth owning. This particular song has a very strong Byrds resemblance.
