Feb 4, 2011 - I find this commercial highly offensive. To inasmuch say that "only women understand the struggles of third-world women" insulted my intelligence as a human being, much less as a woman. Who in North America, man or woman has an inking of anyone's struggles in the third world? I am not oppressed, struggling to be equal or to realize my potential. What normal woman would agree with this blatant marketing ploy which serves only to perpetuate the notion that all and only women are victims? FAIL.

Feb 5, 2011 - A man Muhammad Yunus in a 3rd world country Bangladesh established a bank for the poor in his country. This notion has spread to other countries. He received the nobel peace prize for his efforts. Therefore Care Canada is falsely stating only women can relate to 3rd world women so 1) where is the truth in advertising? 2) why suggest Canadian men & women agree with Canadacares false premises? 3) why do Canadian networks help promote the falsehoods by playing the ad if Canada truly cared?

Feb 5, 2011 - It is a strange thing to see how fragile the male ego truly is. No one is discounting the service of male soliders or any males for that matter. Why is it so hard for men to see a commercial trying to empower women? Ask yourself this, why is it that in every race women are perscuted? If you think North America is excempt take a good look at the pay rate of males and females doing the exact same job. When will males understand that trying to empower women is not a pesonal attack against them?

Feb 7, 2011 - this commercial is incredible and it makes me even more disgusted at some of the mean comments that have been left about this video.

Feb 20, 2011 - OMG grow up! The video isn't saying there's no possible WAY for a man to understand whats happening to these women! They're saying a man could never feel exactly the same way as a woman. Women understand eachother more than men understand us. You're selfish to even bring up a stupid argument about something off topic. This video if about poverty and making a change. You're making a bad start.

Feb 20, 2011 - It's not because it's a commercial empowering women that we're so offended. It's that there is no corrisponding commercial for men. amung other things. It's like having an all male olympics, with no events that females can compete in.Theres a reason we dont have that. Because it would be sexist. So why is this commercial okay?

Mar 1, 2011 - This isn't a feminist charity. As a self-identified feminist I'm appalled by this commercial and its lumping of all women into one. Women, men and children all experience intersecting oppressions and discriminations (race, gender, class, sexual orientation, ability) all over the world, but to generalize and suggest that a White, middle-upper class woman in Canada has any idea of the struggles and oppressions that all women around the world experience is Eurocentric and disturbing.

Mar 3, 2011 - I agree. When I first saw this commercial I couldn't help but scoff. A lot of people believe that there is an innate unity and sameness between all women. Although, women do often share many of the same experiences in life, every life has it's own unique path. All I have to do is look at some of the ladies locally to know I don't understand them and they don't understand me! For CARE to suggest that I could understand another woman's struggled across the world is crazy.

Apr 22, 2011 - @carolayers1: I find your statement ironic because your example blatantly contradicts your argument. The first person to use micro-finance through the Grameen Bank was a village women who started the only telephone booth in her community. Statistically, more women have benefited from micro-finance solutions because it not only allows women to break the social stigma that disables them from owning their own businesses, but it also allows them to re-asset their strong village networks profitably.
globaldiscordia Says:
Apr 22, 2011 - @carolayers1: Also, please don't feel misled: some women even callaborate with family members to establish their business ideas. The point is that Professor Yunus' project has worked because it empowers individuals who have influential roles in their respective communities. You must realize that the role of women particularly, in village communities, are profoundly influential; their roles hold social networks together: marriage alliances; communal events; birth rites; death ceremonies, ect.
carolayers1 Says:
Apr 23, 2011 - I have never worried about war in my backyard, not being able to feed my children, not having an education, living in a cardboard box, & feel manipulated by the ad. The idea that we share more than gender insults these women who must survive daily & my intelligence. It's an emotional appeal for money that degrades your integrity.
carolayers1 Says:
Apr 23, 2011 - I do not discount women's efforts to survive & prosper nor do I find it ironic that It was a woman who started micro economics. Why I am not communicating clearly my thoughts is at issue. One: it's gender biased & two: pandering in my opinion. I certainly salute the debate; however, it does not change the tone of the ad nor how i view it.
EkteBoy Says:
Jun 1, 2011 - This commercial is incredibly offensive to women from other countries"No one can understand the life of a woman in a devloping world as another woman in any part of the world"I wanna see if the women who wrote this commercial live would say this if they lived in a developing country
