Guns are occasionally smuggled into the country but the only people who are legally allowed to carry guns other than air rifles are armed police who have a huge amount of training. I agree guns are a deterrent but they are also an incentive for crime. The UK has very little problems with Gun crime.

I appreciate that people can be killed or hurt by other objects, but Guns make that so much more likely as they are a very simple method of hurting people. Search UK Gun laws and you'll see that the UK has one of the lowest Gun Crime rates in the world because we have a 0 tolerance policy on guns.

I'm a gun owner and I know I can protect myself with my weapon if I need to. I live in a place where a lot of crim happens often and I am glad to have a weapon to protect myself. and yeah, I understand your point, if the bad guys didnt have guns then no gun related crimes...but, like I said, there is no way to get the guns from them.

Feb 3, 2012 - @cmasterchief the UK measures their crime differently. they only record a case after a decision (conviction/acquittal) has been released, and the majority of youth crime is not recorded... the UK has one of the highest violent crime rates in the world and guns are easy for any criminal to get. although i'd guess you wouldn't know this since you've probably never stepped outside your suburb.

I would say people were quite proficent with weapons before self loading firearms were invented,wouldnt you? People still widely use non-firearm weapons today with ease.
