Apr 22, 2012 - Glad you said that this is put in our water as a form of population control and I have personal experience with the affects of it because I live in Hamilton Ontario which does for many years and as a result of it I am convinced that it cause me to have multiple sclerosis. I was always wondering why taking a shower would cause me to have relapse of the disease and now I understand why because it goes through my skin and pisses off my body to fight mode. I have cognitive issues too.

One is topical, the other is systemic. Also it doesn't say that on the back of my crest toothpaste... I checked.

Everyone writing on here is talking about hearsay about how it is bad for you. How many people actually have sat down and read scientific papers about water fluoridation AND actually understood it? May 13, 2012 - It costs about $1 a person per year to fluoridate water. Each child who receives fluoridated water averages one fewer caries (cavity) on their permanent dentition (big teeth). Average cost of a filling in Canada is $150 and lets say that dental coverage is 80% (for those who have it). That means that $30 will be shelled out for each kid in Waterloo. Seems like a pretty poor way to save money IMO.

May 13, 2012 - I AM a doctor AND a scientist and I would vote to keep water fluoridated at 0.5-1.0 mg/L in every single referendum until the science proves otherwise. If there actually was strong and reliable scientific research showing that fluoride was dangerous at these levels then I would vote against it. That is not what the research is showing, however, and that is why water fluoridation SHOULD be supported. Too bad there are too many crackpots out there in need of a cause and they have chosen this one.

May 13, 2012 - Reading these comments makes me remember why I sometimes hate the internet... Completely clueless and uninformed people jumping all over something that is done to benefit them. There's a reason why the CDC lists fluoridated water as one of the top 10 medical advances of the 20th century. Oh well, just means more cavities for patients who will end up in my dental chair.
