Aug 31, 2010 - I have always been disgusted how martial arts in The United States lacks any concern of physical conditioning. I know far too many so called black belts that are by no means an athlete. That is because MA's is sold like a product. And where there is a legitimate product, there is a WAL-MART brand knock off. There are 3 type of martial artist; competitors(sport), fighters(street), hobbyist(WAL-MARTial arts).
tsi2568 Says:
Aug 31, 2010 - @X581jr No. A fighter belongs into the ring, he is the competitor. On the street every reason except to defend yourself is no good reason to practise martial arts for. Every other reason would make you a bully. And for some martial arts you need to be less physically strong than for others. A boxer, karateka, muay thai fighter, mma guy, etc. ought to be physically strong like hell. However, some systems (which mostly are not appliable in the ring) need less physical, like Aikido or Wing Chun.

Aug 31, 2010 - Master Wong is crazy in such a good way! He must be a great Sifu.
X581jr Says:
Aug 31, 2010 - @tsi2568 I do agree with most of what you"re saying. Especially about street motives. I hate bullies(a.k.a. assholes). But about the physical training part, I didn't mean pure strength. In TaeKwonDo you need speed and foot work. So they should train for sprints. In Wrestling you need Strength per body weight. In BJJ it''s isometric strength. All need physical conditioning. just in different directions. I think me and you and I have similar ideas. But something is getting lost in communication.
jdub7771 Says:
Aug 31, 2010 - "Do you want to learn the fucking around, or you want to learn-the take care of your asshole?" No brainer for me!! lol
tsi2568 Says:
Sep 1, 2010 - @X581jr Yeah, you're right. But think of how for example Wing Chun was developped. It was developped by a woman, or, let's say, a woman learned it shortly after it was developped. She had to test her skills against a lord who wanted to marry her. If she won, she didn't have to marry him. A woman can't build as much physical skills as a man. But she won. Because Wing Chun doesn't necessarily need so much physical force. It works with "giving in" and body mechanics. It is an "old man's" art.
ex0duzz Says:
Sep 5, 2010 - @tsi2568 No. For the ring/sport, you are a sportsmen. For the streets and real life, you are a fighter. In a real fight, there are no rules. The only aim of a real fight is to protect your asshole, and to destroy the other guys asshole. lol.You can sugar coat it or whatever, but martial arts is to defend yourself, AND to hurt the other guy. What level of hurt is up to you... but that's the facts. It's there to hurt and/or kill others. Not to fuck around and play footsies or patty cakes etc..
ex0duzz Says:
Sep 5, 2010 - @tsi2568 while i agree with your statement that WC is in general a 'soft' 'style', however, Sifu has made it clear that there's also 'hard' style in WC. Using the other guys force is of course preferable, but realistically, it doesn't mean that we can't also use 'hard' blocks and break their limbs with a 'hard' block(or that if we do, it's not WC). It's pretty clear that's how he rolls.. It's like how he said.. you wanna go for roundhouse? No problem.. He'll just snap your leg like a twig.. lol
