Duration: 5:14

Description:
Ari Vatanen in the Peugeot 405 T16 climbing the pikes peak. Forget the name climb dance, it just sucks... and just skip the first minute, it has no sens. Just watch for the drifting.

Jun 2, 2011 - Ari drove this 1988. Group B rally cars (which the 405 T16 is) were banned on rally events and Peugeot decided to attend to this event with the car. 2.0 litre turbo engine with about 750bhp and 550Nm torque.Ari's time on the track was 10:47 back then which is pretty amazing. Current record on the unlimited category is 10:12.

Dec 9, 2011 - @ddoodiac Actually, this record has been broken by couple of guys.BUT after Ari drove that record, the track has been changed to partial tarmac. So actually this record cannot / will not be broken.

ddoodiac Says:

Dec 9, 2011 - Gaming from Finland thanks for the update! Cheers!

Jan 22, 2012 - @crzyninja33 dude kudos for uploading the film, but don't go nasty on it. 'Climb Dance' is an award-winning short film, and the editing only helps to intensify the grandeur of Vatanen's performance

haloover Says:

Feb 1, 2012 - @ddoodiac the weight of the car is drifting out to the corner exit, Driving in a way that you prosperously set up oversteer is still a drift style.

metonAlternate Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @Serperoth Well, yes and no. Japanese drifters use cars with similar levels of power for a sort of RWD car ballet. But Vatanen and other Group B monster drivers are way past mere dancing, they are in fact flying extremely low on top of the gravel by pushing themselves and the car to such limits that lifting off the is the biggest and most fatal mistake you can make while shooting up a 16km climb to the clouds @ ~200kph.

metonAlternate Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @ddoodiac It cannot be 'broken' any more. The road has been paved and in small bits, year by year no less. Times can't be compared anymore. Besides, Vatanen loved tarmac rallies on the dry. He might just re do the new paved peak someday.

metonAlternate Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @haloover "Drift style" It's called Group-B-style you ingrate. Drifting is masturbation in comparison to the full blown hardcore driving shown here. The level of control you need to have on _gravel_ to do this is the same you need to win an F1 championship.

metonAlternate Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @haloover And if you're referring to the illegal road-racing scene on japanese mountain passes where some drivers do indeed adapt track-drift maneuvers to block the car behind while going down hill, well. It's not drifitng. First one to make it down wins. Not the widest drift with the biggest smoke. Especially not when on tarmac you could attack far more steeply in to the corner with this 1000bhp AWD monster and pass.

haloover Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @metonAlternate no im talking about the physics behind driving a car. if you just turn in you have loads of understeer, but if you set up weight transfer and put the car in a four wheel drift thats still Drifting. It fucking physics, people just get their panties in a bunch cause of how drifting has blown up. RALLY is always my favorite motorsport, drifting as a sport may be bollocks but as a style its amazing.

metonAlternate Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @haloover It's called a 'power-slide' not a damn drift. The whole point of a 'drift' is to last as long as possible and look as cool as possible. The point of a power-slide is to attain more traction for the corner exit, usually on gravel by means of a scandinavian-flick, not a over-sized hand-brake. Anyway this is about attaining maximum control on gravel and 'drifitng' is about burning rubber on tarmac. I can see the value in both. Gravel rally and drifting are like black and white.

haloover Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @metonAlternate Clearly you dont know about dynamic driving, Drifting is about the grip you do maintain, not about the grip you loose.

metonAlternate Says:

Feb 3, 2012 - @haloover The car weigh-balance is with out a shread of doubt 50/50. The car also employs 4-wheel-steering in-addition to a Torsen torque-split. This kind of a setup is _BALANCED_. Vatanen is even contiously slipping the damned clutch on the corners because the tires just don't have enough grip and he would drop out of boost. He enters a power-slide using a scandinavian flick, not by setting up an anvil in the back.

jeyendeoso Says:

Feb 10, 2012 - Drift is flamboyance. Rally is speed. Get over it you twats.
