Apr 29, 2009 - Typical sit-on-top kayaks have scupper drain holes. They are designed to allow water which collects on top of the kayak to run out (Without taking on additional water). Sometimes you may want to plug the scupper holes (In calm conditions), so that the cockpit area is totally dry... Hense the use of scupper plugs. Unless a person is way under the weight capacity of the kayak, there will probably be some water entering in through the scupper holes (It should be minimal though).
