That's why he kills his cellmate. To get thrown into isolation and start his chaos. I actually like the ending of this. I'd give Gerard Butler a B+ for his acting. When he chopped up Darby, you actually found yourself cheering for him to do it. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars.

This movie does not at all deal with what people are willing to do in such situations etc.. He starts right of with killing people and keeps doing so until he isn't able to do so anymore.. That some people might make their own story of it because they hear the music this or that way does not in anyway mean it is actually so..
