Nov 4, 2011 - T.T i cant sit through this without getting tired

JonathanMartinovici Says:

Nov 7, 2011 - It sounds like it starts in B minor. But it changes rather freely. Debussy's music can be taken as being, in that sense, atonal (without a tonal centre, or key).

Nov 12, 2011 - Música de otro mundo; sensaciones puras, el arte por el arte.

Jan 2, 2012 - Such warmth, yet so distant...

Jan 11, 2012 - Fruity, yet tannic

Jan 20, 2012 - what's cool about Debussy is from a theoretical perspective it's all logical, he was a harmonic master, nothing is done at random, how the hell did he hear that stuff? how / what did he practice? where did he get inspiration? it's not like he could listen to recordings, watch you tube, imagine sitting at his side while he played. ditto for all the masters, e.g what kind of dude was Chopin?

cliffworks4321 Says:

Jan 20, 2012 - try notating it, or even reading the score, i promise you won't get tired!

Feb 7, 2012 - Exactly. When I hear this piece, I always imagine running through a dark and scary forest, with intermittent bursts of sunlight through the tree branches that kind of trick you into thinking all is well for just a little while.

Feb 24, 2012 - had to analyze this piece in music theory today... he does some interesting stuff with harmonies.

ehayes3791 Says:

Feb 24, 2012 - I heard that while he was in school, the teachers hated him. lola teacher asked him once why he did what he did, with all the retrogressions and whatnot and he replied "for my pleasure". I like that he's taking a note from beethoven and not relying on the rules of theory but rather the emotion that the music conveys.

ehayes3791 Says:

Feb 24, 2012 - it stays in B minor mostly, except for an italian chord and a N6/ii

ehayes3791 Says:

Feb 24, 2012 - also, it is far from atonal as it still revolves around the same key. it is the retrogressions that give it that wandering feel due to it not going where your ear has been trained to think it will go. debussy is heavy impressionist, but not atonal.

Mar 4, 2012 - He said it was a dreamy an he fell asleep so that begs the question. What dream did he have?

randomhero118 Says:

Mar 12, 2012 - This really reminds me of Limbo. Just the picture of being in a dark forest, all alone

sleepypie Says:

Mar 18, 2012 - Debussy is great 420 music for lying around outside a sunny spring or summer day. It's what John Sebastian meant when he wrote "Daydream."

ty2 Says:

Mar 27, 2012 - Debussy would have banged his head against the wall til he bleed if he knew people thought the purpose of his music was to fall asleep to.

Apr 16, 2012 - i love just staring at his face, staring at the music, and sweating all over the place.

Apr 18, 2012 - For me, it is sitting in warm grasses surrounded by rolling hills somewhere in the UK or Europe and feeling the Sun and warm breezes lull me into a blissful semi-slumber.
