I was just pointing out that just because you ask "Am I being detained or am I free to go" doesn't mean that the cops wont call the dogs, even without probable cause they can call them in.If its going to be a minute before the dogs arrive the cops can easily make up a lie and say that they smell marijuana. That gives them probable cause to briefly detain you until their investigation is complete. Basically, the cops can do whatever they want to do.

It sucks, but being civil, polite, and forcing the police to consider your legal rights is the best way to defend yourself from even more citations for the same stop and from police brutality. Also, if you don't admit to any crimes and you feel the citation is incorrect, you can challenge it in court, and provided you didn't admit to the crime, you may have a chance to have the citation dropped. The keyword is "chance," though.
