Aug 27, 2011 - this dude is way fucking pretentious

Markus77x7 Says:

Aug 28, 2011 - Mutations are studied all the time and there is no evidence that random mutations create new, coherent information in the genome. Just the opposite. In real world science, mutations scramble/destroy existing DNA sequences. Mutations are the by-product of coding errors in the DNA. As errors, they are purposeless and incoherent. That's simply not a valid mechanism for reptile --> human "evolution." The theory is unsupportable and unscientific, because its core mechanism is false.

fdasherv Says:

Aug 29, 2011 - And your advanced degree in genetics came from where?

antipyrene Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - So the serfdom, inquisitions, the mass murder of the crusades, scientific ignorance that led to death at least a 1/3 of the population from disease, all these from the age when religious dogma dominated, these were wonderful?

richardaberdeen Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - I never said people were not evil back then. What ALL of the historical and scientific evidence clearly demonstrates, is that people today are no better. There is no evidence whatsoever that there ever was an "age of enlightenment" or, that science and education can save us from our sins. As several historians have pointed out, more people died from war and related violence in the 20th Century than in all previous centuries combined. Your position has no historical or other merit

T0pcatFilms Says:

Sep 4, 2011 - thumbsed up when he talked about the enemy of humanism. Hate. It should be the enemy of Christianity too, i think there was a guy, Jesus i think, talked about loving enemies.... I'm Christian and a lot of the reason i love Joss Whedon is that his message is more Christian than a lot of Christians. People debating faith is pointless, if we're debating on anything lets debate on something that can be substanciated.

antipyrene Says:

Sep 5, 2011 - Life in developed world today is vastly better than the middle ages

richardaberdeen Says:

Sep 5, 2011 - When you are talking about history, you don't begin in the Middle Ages and, when you are talking about people, you don't talk about just people in "the developed world". People in the developed world are responsible in large part, for the mass pollution of our planet, the starvation of billions and the pollution of their drinking water. And what goes around, eventually comes around; there is more poverty in the U.S. and Europe today than any time since WWII. You are full of shit.

richardaberdeen Says:

Sep 5, 2011 - [ continuing ] What came out of the so-called "age of enlightenment' was the rise of European and American imperialism, the global slave trade, the American, French, Russian, Chinese and other major revolutions, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, modern weapons of mass destruction and global mass pollution and now ongoing global corporate enslavement of the masses. There is absolutely ZERO evidence that people today are more moral or even as moral, as the people of ancient Egypt, Babylon and China

antipyrene Says:

Sep 5, 2011 - If you really think life was better when society was dominated by religion, move to Iran

richardaberdeen Says:

Sep 5, 2011 - I didn't say people were any better, I said they weren't any worse. Ask some survivors of Hiroishma, Nazi concentration camps and people who have seen the skin burned off of their own children in Iraq if they think people are improving. Try again.

Sep 20, 2011 - Joss for Prez

TheDjwildcard Says:

Oct 12, 2011 - Please sir, don't insult Hitchens' book "God is not great" and Dawkins' "God Dilution" by calling them old news. Then proceeding to state that the most important thing is where do we go from here without giving an answer. It's pretty arrogant, selfish, egotistical, and poor of character out of someone who has done very little compared to Hitchens and Dawkins. That kind of childish witty remark might work on your cancelled projects, but no one is cancelling Atheism. Thank you.

ActuallyLiam Says:

Dec 26, 2011 - Did he not say, "These are old news for me" as in he has read them. You're a little touchy aren't you. I've never read them and I'm an Atheist. If anything he is giving them as much credit as they deserve. You need to stop treating them like the Biblical texts of Atheism. They're not. I prefer Sam Harris' books myself his way of using morality in religious arguments is interesting. But I certainly wouldn't put down the science prospective of Dawkins

TheDjwildcard Says:

Dec 27, 2011 - "In Whedon we trust" is the mantra his fanatics deify him and his works, treating them like the Biblical texts of Geek culture. You can prefer Sam Harris all you like, more power to you. But the touchy one is you, for you engaged a YouTube user, where as I commented on this video, clearly I wouldn't go out of my way to say such comment; specially if Humanism is the topic. Speaking of which, humor brings people together, go to Cracked and search Joss Whedon cliche's.

rogums Says:

Jan 31, 2012 - Well I just like his shows myself, I don't think you can win an argument on religion by advertising the man hoping that we are all devoted to him.

mistermellow001 Says:

Mar 1, 2012 - I felt included by Obama's inauguration speech, too. But not so in the State of the Union address. Deliberate, I'm sure. Education sounds great, Joss, but we're also at war with dominionist ideologues who apply their pressure so unrelentingly that even secular politicians, for fear of offending what "appears" to be the majority, spinelessly adjust their behavior, hide their (dis)beliefs, and compromise their ideals - just to be re-elected. That's cowardice. You can't educate unless you're heard.

AlternativePercuss Says:

Mar 31, 2012 - A voice of reason.

TheTraskinator42 Says:

Apr 21, 2012 - GOD = NO.

chrisborah Says:

Apr 30, 2012 - I love Joss Whedon & love his entire catalog, however, I would like to remind us that this was exactly the mindset of Germany pre-WWI. At the time, Germany was the intellectual center of the globe, the highest and most enlightened post-Enlightenment people, and it was out of this education the first world war started. When PhD's were killing each other with knives in trenches during WWI the idea that education saves was destroyed as well.YouTube is clearly the best forum for this discussion :)

AMilitantAgnostic Says:

May 7, 2012 - The enemy of HUMANS is not faith - it is absolute certainty - to commit genocide, humans must be whipped up into a frenzy of certainty. The philosophy that encourages that frenzy, has historically been both theistic and atheistic. The warning that trouble is on the way is when your group stops condemning the absolutely certain wackos in your own ranks. WARNING if you are theist or atheist your group is NOT condemning the absolutely certain in your own ranks.

tipofmytongue1024 Says:

May 7, 2012 - This guy is hott. Not only is he incredibly intelligent but that beard...woof.

pandemiCDG Says:

May 19, 2012 - the sky bully xD

supermeTricmAn Says:

May 27, 2012 - Micro is proven, yes, but Macro is speculative theory. I don't really know how we came to be, but if both creationism, and macro-evolution are our only answers, then i'll just patiently wait for another belief to hit the stage.

mrscience711 Says:

May 28, 2012 - Um... no. I hate to break it to you, but you've been mislead. The only difference between "micro and macro" is length of time. They are theoretically the same.
