beffertjes Says:

May 12, 2012 - The act of playing the game, the act itself, does indeed not contribute to the GDP, but the production of the game (which makes it available for us, required thus for us to play) does contribute to the GDP, meaning thy argument itself is correct however your statement is flawed.

beffertjes Says:

May 12, 2012 - It is not only a source of entertainment, seriously you are ignorant if you think so. If you look at all the events around it, for instance Athene made an event to raise money for children in africa. Also if you look deeper, influence on the economy is huge. Not limited to this particular game, but wow stimulates people to, for instance, buy a PC, (incase a BETTER PC) Or any other things that they need to play A game, this then stimulates the economy.

Gaius Marius Says:

May 13, 2012 - Oh give me a break, If you want to succeed than get out of the God damn house. I live in Bosnia, we're poor, when I can't pay the monthly internet price, I'm outside training, otherwise I would kill myself. But when I do have internet I watch videos of those who already succeeded, playing stupid games, gettin' lazy... Internet took your intellect people. Keep thumbin up comments that have no sense at all...

TheGrandMo Says:

May 14, 2012 - It's unfortunate that you live a hard life, but everyone has their skills that can help society in some way. Just so you know, A solution of protein in AIDS that had researchers deadlocked for 15 years was discovered in a matter of 3 weeks with the help of gamers. Stupid video games huh?

slugfly Says:

May 14, 2012 - 0.0 I've been singing this song for nearly a decade, and have devoted my education, career and life to it. :D Nice to see it validated. :)

Illvana Says:

May 14, 2012 - then, my man, you have no effing idea how the gaming COMMUNITY moves and breathes...this is exactly what DETACHES gamers from "community" or "reality": oblivious people who think gaming is retarded, and that a gamer can't stand on his own in the real world. and that's why those people don't realize they live side by side with assiduous gamers, who are actually more "common" than a bunch of adult bullies who don't even realize they're still doing so as if they were in high school...

NYhippie543 Says:

May 14, 2012 - Have you ever heard of Foldit? No. Shut up.

poon5000 Says:

May 14, 2012 - Yes I know about it. Its great and its an exception. the other 99.9% of games aren't useful to our society as anything but a source of entertainment. Also, please don't assume that I dont know about foldit or other games. You don't know me, you dont know what i know/dont know.

TheDarkever Says:

May 16, 2012 - The basic difference between challenges in games and challenges is real life is that games are forgiving, so even if you FAIL, you can retry again and again until you do it. Real life isn't that kind, sadly.

TheDarkever Says:

May 16, 2012 - Getting rejected by the girl you like, or failing to entering the university you want, or not succeeding in the interview for the job of your dreams... all of these are most of time one-try-only situation: if you fail to beat the warden guarding the gate to a new area, you won't be ever able to explore that area or you will have to wait 1 or 2 years to try again (if you are lucky).

TheDarkever Says:

May 16, 2012 - If we want to compare online games to real like, I'd say they're more like PvP: you have a few companions that play with you against everyone else. This is because we live in a naturally competitive world. To make it like PvE, we should all collaborate together... which doesn't happen for various reason, including human stupidity.

TheSilentJorge Says:

May 16, 2012 - Bitch please, detachment from reality can happen due to a lot of stuff, not only games.

poon5000 Says:

May 18, 2012 - Yes it can be caused by other things. That doesn't make it any less harmful. And why call me a "bitch" unless you are 12? If you are, it's ok, you will understand later. If not, its time to grow up.

TheSilentJorge Says:

May 18, 2012 - Bitch please, if you don't know what ''bitch please'' means yo must be new around here. Also the ''growing up comeback'' is preeeettyyyyyy overused.

poon5000 Says:

May 18, 2012 - It is not a comeback, I am simply trying to educate you. Listen twice, speak once. You might learn something. Look up the word "respect". Really, do it.

Hadrwraer Says:

May 22, 2012 - To be honest I feel like you are a bit biased as well, as you give no positive feedback towards gaming either. Sure, some things that she says is to say the least doubtful, but at the same time we must not forget that gaming is more than a time wasting activity. Many people, including me, would say that video games are art. I would say that about the same cons that you stated for gaming might as well be side effects of staying home and reading books.

poon5000 Says:

May 22, 2012 - Thank you for a constructive criticism, I agree with you. These side effects do apply to things that are addictive. There are some activities which can be very addictive, and as they are often marketed to kids, they have an overall negative impact upon society. Such activities are inscribed into our kids' brains. For the record, I'd rather my kid be reading books than gaming all day. If gaming is art and inspires creativity, I am all for it, but not with the potential of addiction it has today

deusaeus Says:

May 22, 2012 - The potential for addiction can be found in literally any activity or behavior, to single out gaming is biased. It goes without saying that moderation is needed, in all things, and that of course includes gaming.Would you call meditation a waste of time? How about a long chat with a close friend? Spending time with family?I recommend you read "Reality is Broken" to get a clearer idea of the benefits of gaming. Yes the book is by Jane, but it contains great studies and lots of references.

poon5000 Says:

May 23, 2012 - Yes, everything can be addictive to a degree. However, some things are more addictive than others. Also, some activities are more beneficial to a person than others. Meditation is not a waste of time, it increases performance, memory, self control, empathy, and self esteem. A long chat can be a waste of time, unless it's deep/important. Spending time with family is not a waste of time because it brings a family closer together. Gaming all day everyday is a waste of time and it is not uncommon.

deusaeus Says:

May 23, 2012 - I didn't say gaming all day every day. You have a bad habit of only using the extreme cases in your argument vs all cases of gaming. And gaming accomplishes the same things as meditation, talking with a friend and spending time with family. You're clearly so deeply set in your bias that no amount of logic, statistics, studies or proof will ever budge you from your perch of ignorance. I won't waste any more of my time trying to help inform you as to the aspects of gaming that you are missing.

TheSilentJorge Says:

May 23, 2012 - OMG!!! i'm such a genious, telling people to go around the internet looking up words.

elRougey Says:

May 23, 2012 - I played Eve.I really find it difficult to apply her theory, given that in a word like ours in a sense that there are no safeguards, few (very bendable) rules, no safety net or even a truly safe place and the freedom to do whatever they desire, many are complete bastards.

poon5000 Says:

May 24, 2012 - Do you mean genius? "genious" is not a word. School is crucial to your development in life, gaming is not. Fix your priorities or you will end up a bum.

44HBK Says:

May 29, 2012 - Intelligent .. Beautiful .. and most importantly a Gamer!! my kind of woman <3
