May 14, 2012 - fer4144377 no it is not true. Barry Manilow did not write Mandy for his dog. Barry Manilow actually didn't write Mandy at all. Mandy was originally a song called Brandy. Barry Manilow got the rights to do a cover and re-arranged the song and it became Mandy.
