He is forgetting that the reason it isn't safe to ride in the bicycle lane in the first place is due to jackasses who, like him, disregard safe conduit and road etiquet (at the bare minimum). Besides, temporary signals are valid in his case. If the lane is obstructed, dismount, go through the sidewalk, resume riding the bike.
