Apr 22, 2012 - No, Elam was the heavier white guy... did you ever see The Cannonball Run? In that he was the alcoholic doctor who ended up going on the race with Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise. The black actor is Woody Strode, who I describe in another post. Look him up on Wikipedia, he had an interesting life.

773SleepyHollow Says:

Apr 22, 2012 - No, it's not Scatman Crothers in this, it's Woody Strode. Interesting guy... he went to UCLA, played football there with Jackie Robinson, & he played football for the Rams in 1946, a year before Robinson joined the Dodgers. After becoming an actor he became close friends with John Ford and appeared in several of his films, & starred in his film Sergeant Rutledge. Today, besides this "West" scene, he's probably best known for fighting Kirk Douglas in the gladiatorial arena in "Spartacus."

Apr 24, 2012 - If this is the opening where is the part where fly walks over Jack Elam's face and he tries to blow it away? Is it from some extended edition? It's one of the coolest bits of movie I've ever seen.

MrCrispian Says:

Apr 29, 2012 - all mullet was the third heavy,he was the one armed man in good ,bad, and ugly....he sadly commited suicide jumping out of a third floor window wearing his costume....this is the longest strangest title sequence in movie history......why does it take so long theres only 15 pages of dialog in the whole film......still its a classic.

MrCrispian Says:

Apr 29, 2012 - all the sound effects were dubbed in later.

Lopplt Says:

May 2, 2012 - It seems men had considerably cooler faces during the making of this movie than they do now'days.

gamewizard Says:

May 2, 2012 - My only complaint with this film is that my man, Jack Elam, gets killed in the first few minutes. He was such a fantastic actor in westerns that I thought he deserved better than to die so early in the picture.

May 20, 2012 - Elam and Strode. Don't know the third guy's name but according to story he committed suicide the day after this scene. Leone said, " get his costume". He was the one armed guy in GB&U that Tuco wounded in the opening sequence and later killed. "When its time to shoot, shoot, don't talk"

Daj679 Says:
