Description:
Muay Boran (Thai: มวยโบราณ, lit. "ancient boxing") is an umbrella term for the unarmed martial arts of Thailand prior to the introduction of modern equipment and rules. It is the ancestor of modern Muay Thai. The word muay which means boxing comes from the Sanskrit term mavya, while boran or boraan means ancient in Thai. The art is significantly different from its modern descendent. Whereas Muay Thai is often called the "science of eight limbs", muay boran is said to make use of nawa awut which means nine weapons and refers to the hands, legs, elbows, knees and head.

Beatwolf Says:
Apr 1, 2012 - as a base for expanding? Muay Thai has been proven again and again to beat a lot of martial arts including kung fu styles and karate styles. Masters from both countries were invited in the 80's and every single one got their asses kicked in the first round.Stop making it sound as if Muay Thai is some sort of stepping stone to greater martial arts.
Chanda Priek Says:
Apr 1, 2012 - Muay Thai, Khmer prodal sery both are come from Angkor wat temple this is very clear. But I believed this style of fight can not beat wrestling an American martial art...!

Apr 21, 2012 - agreed, for modern day muaythai sport technique are good stepping stone because it use all the basic movement from every part of the body, but if study further, muay korad or muay navarach (muaythai boran) is martial art use for killing. I dont think that any martial arts which created to kill an opponent is a stepping stone for any other martial arts

Apr 24, 2012 - nice to see jeet kune do in this.
getsugaahh Says:
May 1, 2012 - Hi, I just picked up Muay Thai, and I observed that from the various Muay Thai match/fight videos I watched, why is it that the moves demonstrated here are like seldom used in a Muay Thai match, especially in the ring?
sankalpkota Says:
May 4, 2012 - It would be amazing to pull off the mov eat 4:34!
SuperThaiKicker Says:
May 8, 2012 - That's because this is muay boran. An old school technique. Muay thai today is changed a bit and now using boxing gloves. I have trained in muay thai for a year now and we use the modern type. Especially for competition.
getsugaahh Says:
May 8, 2012 - Yeah, I can see that. Which is normally by wrapping hemp ropes and without gloves, right? Just been only wondering why beautiful moves like those here aren't really used in the ring. That's all.
TragicGenesis Says:
May 15, 2012 - The comment you posted shows that you know nothing about JKD
navyteccs Says:
May 16, 2012 - i saw some attacking while defending moves, which is wat u do in JKD. besides it was more of a joke than anything
TragicGenesis Says:
May 19, 2012 - I was joking. Yea there is some interception an a w/d in here.

joshlerd Says:
May 24, 2012 - This reminds me way too much of Tekken 2.
Tadeuszsie Says:
May 24, 2012 - It could be, but muay boran was first and Tekken came later!

sebxcore27 Says:
Mar 20, 2012 - it's not because you demonstrate or slow motion that you have to make you moves fancy with drop the guard when you strikes, when we demonstrate we use the same techniques as fast motion just slower, no fancy moves, no drop guards or open guard. In Thailand unfortunately muay boran became a business and a lot of scam around this a lot of muay thai kru said to the foreigner they can teach muay boran but it's just a big scam for tourists. Real boran ajarn are very rare and hard to find.
