Author: TheObanTimes
Duration: 5:41
Description:
Traffic came to a stand-still on numerous occasions on Friday December 30 2011 in Oban as a large part of the Argyll Hotel on The Esplanade was torn down piece by piece. The slates had previously been removed, much of the interior and most of the roof trusses, leaving just the shell to demolish. By mid-afternoon a large part of the previously Listed building was gone.Traffic was re-directed around the back of the Columba Hotel, on to the North Pier, which presented difficulties for a number of articulated lorries, which were unable to make the turn from George Street on the to North Pier. All traffic was halted while a large chimney breast and gable end in the middle of the three buildings that made up the hotel, was taken down.
