First off Cretien only cut the debt because the CTF was causing a massive poop storm to get spending under control... They did this by cutting federal transfers and breaking almost every promise they ever made. The libs are 100% responsible for the creation of hallway medicine (among other things). This left the provinces to make up the difference or cut services. Yet the same taxes were charged.

This obviously is not true for Sweden which currently has a flourishing economy, "entitlement programs", and last time I checked is part of Europe.
