Description:
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, guys. Thank you very much. Please, have a seat. Thank you so much.Well, first of all, let me thank Lew Hay and his visionary leadership at Florida Power & Light. It's an example of a company that is doing well by doing good. And I think it's a model for what we could duplicate all across the country. To Greg Bove, who just gave me the tour and was a construction manager for this facility, congratulations. We've got a couple of special guests here: Representative Kathy Castor from Tampa, a great friend. (Applause.) Arcadia Mayor Dr. Roosevelt Johnson. (Applause.) And State Representative Keith Fitzgerald from Sarasota. (Applause.)And I want to once again thank Lew for the generous introduction. I want to congratulate you and all the workers who are involved in this outstanding facility for Florida Power & Light. It's an honor to be here on a very big day not just for Arcadia but for the cause of clean energy in America. With the flip of a switch, FP&L will -- has moved the solar panels behind me into a position where they can catch the sun's rays. And now, for the very first time, a large-scale solar power plant -- the largest of its kind in the entire nation -- will deliver electricity produced by the sun to the citizens of the Sunshine State. And I think it's about time.(Applause.)This plant will produce enough power to serve the entire city of Arcadia. Its construction was a boost to your local economy, creating nearly 400 jobs in this area. And over the next three decades, the clean energy from this plant will save 575,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which is the equivalent of removing more than 4,500 cars from the road each year for the life of the project. Think about that, 45,000 [sic] cars from the road each year for the life of the project. And yet, to realize the full potential of this plant and others like it, we've got to do more than just add extra solar megawatts to our electrical grid. That's because this grid -- which is made up of everything from power ...

Oct 28, 2009 - Odumbo is a lying, steaming pile of sh*t.

chewbaca1989 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - Greenest economy in Europe, Spain, 20% unemployment rate. Obama to sign UN Climate treaty, this December, making us as compliant, or green, as Spain.

bigc028282 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - A treaty that will supersede our Constitution and infringes on our countries sovereignty. All treaties can have this affect, as per our Constitution. There are two ways to implement the treaty. There's one that is like an executive order=BAD.GreenPeace is one of the organizations that has made it available for you to read, as it exists today. Hope it won't be like the cap in trade when "they" added 300 pages at 3AM.

namename654 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - I've heard of the superconductor research, but I'm sure there is still some transmission loss on the energy. I doubt it would be efficient for one town to sell energy over long distances, but you never know.

quizerry Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - These companies have been doing well on their own w/o Government intervention. But who is not gonna take free Government money if it is thrown at you. Wind and sloar companies have come a long way as the technology evolves. Why do they need Billions in taxpayer dollars when they have been successful till now w/o it? Cap & Trade is just a Corporate welfare scheme for big business, guilty of manipulating national climate policy to increase profits on the backs of consumers," draped in green.

samdon815 Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - There is a whole field that is no longer of any use for agriculture or anything else.. If we develop our hydropower potential there will be enough electric for the whole country. Wind and solar - electric are tricks of the oil industry.

jjrglobal Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - Its as if we lost our job, spent our savings and retirement, and we dont even have enough money to pay our bills, we're about to lose our home and Obama's advice to us would be to remodel the bathrooms and kitchen and buy all new furniture on credit. Would this make sense? Then how does this stupid shit make sense during the worst economic crisis in human history?

jjrglobal Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - @krokionWhat are you, Al Queda? We dont live in caves in America, yet.

SirFinklebottom Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - He talks nice, but too bad he doesn't understand economics and makes Keynesian fallacies.

krokion Says:

Oct 28, 2009 - amazing that you would refer to me as Al Queda base on my quote "out the caves and into the light" I was refering to Plato. This may just be youtube but some of us have fought for this country so keep your composure before you take your frustration out on your key board pass out insults.

dougmanjones Says:

Oct 29, 2009 - Hell yeah! It's about time. I'm sure the Republicans will find a way to be against this as well, even though it will require a shitload of new, good jobs. Leave it to conservatives to be against updating an antiquated electrical grid. I can just hear Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin; it'll be something like, "This is the kind of thing Stalin did during the Cold War" or some other stupid bullshit. Right on, Barack!

CO2Junkie Says:

Oct 29, 2009 - Converting to renewable energy & energy independence wouldn't be like remodeling the bathroom. It would be like turning up your air conditioning, turning down your heater, getting a water saving shower head & putting a couple solar panels on your roof. Then trading in your gas guzzling clunker for a 60 mpg hybrid with a $4000 tax credit. Maybe that's why you're broke? Because you can't even figure out & follow smart economic advice. In fact, you can't even make a fair & accurate analogy.

jjrglobal Says:

Oct 29, 2009 - If global warming is a problem, burning fossil fuels a little bit slower isn't going to help a damn thing, burning it a lot slower doesn't do anything. The fact is, we will reach peak oil soon, well before any damage control would have any effect on the environment The ever rising prices of oil will naturally bring about renewable research and development, it already has. There are enormous investments in this field, they just haven't found anything that works well enough, but hi taxes wont help

CO2Junkie Says:

Oct 30, 2009 - We'll have to agree to disagree. There are already several proposals, that seem plausible to me, on how to re-fix the carbon that is in the atmosphere. Of course these proposals need to be tested and since this is a negative externality, there is no private sector solution. I dunno how you got onto taxes. We weren't talking about taxes. I am not currently paying higher taxes. And according to you, you're not making that much money... so why are you paying more in taxes?

jjrglobal Says:

Oct 30, 2009 - When did I say I wasn't making money. The earlier post was just an analogy, which is why it's starts off "It's as if" I'm making money, what that money will be able to buy is the million dollar questionAnytime you bring up renewable energy or global warming, it automatically leads to cap and trade. Cap and trade will be the largest tax hike in history on every American including you.Gas,electricity, consumer products will be more expensive and it won't do a damn thing to help global warming.

CO2Junkie Says:

Oct 30, 2009 - I see, you were fortune telling. As for not helping anthropogenic GW, I recently sat in on a lecture by some guys from the NSF who work in the arctic. I saw their data for increases in CH3 output. So we'll have to agree to disagree. I guess we can work it out at the voting booth.I'm not worried about taxes or inflation. In fact I've been trying to scale down my consumption rate. Also we just got a tax credit for new windows in our home & a friend got 'cash for clunkers'. Thanks Obama et al!

CO2Junkie Says:

Oct 30, 2009 - Last thing, just to clarify our differences. As you can see, I'm having trouble worrying about your economic catastrophe scenario based on the Federal tax scheme. I could see a problem because of continued population growth & the pressure it is putting on our growth & debt based economic system. So what I am saying is - I am more threatened by people who have 3 & 4 or more kids. It's easier to reverse a tax than to find 1.5 times more jobs in the next 15 years to make up for population growth.

Nov 25, 2010 - When peace makes money the suffering will stop. I see a landscape in the near future of windmills. I see solar on every house. I see a people in bloom. It is all about the love. Pick one thing to save. And it will happen.

joskemom Says:

Nov 30, 2010 - I see a man on LSD.

joskemom Says:

Nov 30, 2010 - Is this company still in buisness? Many people who have appeared with Obama in video promo footage has since been laid off. One of the 'green' companies Obama made a speech at laid off about 150 of its employers. The Cap and Tax bill should be 'shovel ready' for a grave somewhere.

pacificcresttrans Says:

Jan 18, 2011 - Smart Grid technology helps build operations in the power network...The benefits of implementing Smart Grid technology are reduced costs, increase in reliability and energy saving. Transformers play a critical part in the energy distribution network...Pacific Crest Transformers has information related to transformers and the 'smart' system.
