Feb 15, 2010 - None of the later recordings seem to capture the same charm and spirit as this. Is it the crackly sound quality, or was this recording the best because the singer and mood matched the time it was written?

Feb 15, 2010 - I'm not a musician but I read that she created this style of singing 'Crooning'. I always relate that style with later singers who had electric microphones and could get in close and soft to make it seem they were singing just to you. But you can over think these things. It really just the perfect artist for the song. Just like Gene Austin is to "My Blue Heaven".

Feb 6, 2011 - Nice work! Have you heard Arlo Guthrie's rendition from his Hobo's Lullabye album? It's wryer and less ingenuous, but still appreciative of a great song.
