Jan 8, 2012 - So true!  Just saw one again today - it really is incredible in person! A few years back I did a one day workshop and it was really a lot of fun to bang on drums for a few hours! It can get really intense, especially when everyone is moving together in unison! :)

Feb 7, 2012 - This takes me back. I learnt the basics of Taiko drumming in primary school; we studied Japanese and that was an extra part of music for selected students. (You had to audition)We were always told to accentuate every hit with sharp and strong movements. I suppose this was the beginning of my love for drumming, I'd love to go back to the Taikos.

Apr 26, 2012 - It depends on the type of drum. Some taiko are rope tightened and can be re-tied to adjust tension. You can see that on the small shime-daiko drums at 0:45. The larger drums shown here have the skins tacked on with "byo", and are not tension-adjustable.
