Title: Cleaning a Record with Wood Glue

Added: Apr 30, 2011

Author: ghettofunk13

Duration: 4:30

Description:
I wanted to try cleaning an LP with wood glue. It made for quite an improvement - and I've read that multiple cleanings continue to clean up the snaps crackles and pops.Edit: I know I used way too much glue in this vid. :) But it was my first try so I wanted to get it right. You can use considerably less glue and still get the same effect - but it cuts the dry time way down. Just be sure that you get the whole record covered!

Apr 27, 2012 - I don't believe this method is recommended for 78's because they aren't made of vinyl. I've seen dish soap/water mix with a fine bristle brush as a recommended way to clean 78's, though don't have any to try with (nor have I really looked into best methods for them in general).

May 6, 2012 - Nope. Life RmJack said, the grooves are now hills, so a record player wouldn't be able to play it.

May 7, 2012 - Make a print of the print... ;)

May 9, 2012 - wouldnt it play backwards tho?

chicofux Says:

May 9, 2012 - It's a negative, so it's not a playable copy. But several copies can be made upon the negative. Mass piracy!

May 10, 2012 - A brush will ruin a 78 badly.

May 13, 2012 - I use simple soap and water and that works great. Use a pencil to hold the record and spin it under the faucet. The label won't get too wet if you keep it spinning on the pencil and even if it does it can stand water for a little while. Soap it and rinse and they softly dry with paper towels. Works great and less trouble than this. REad in a hi tech Audio MAg that plain soap and water worked as good as any high priced commercial cleaning product.

May 17, 2012 - Do you still use that much of glue per record? I don't think that excessive glue will improve cleaning/sound. Do you have static electricity after removing glue?

May 17, 2012 - WOW I never seen this done, I found some records that have hardly ever been played that were stored in a damp bsement of a abandoned house my frieinds company was tearing down. They look like there good except for the mold on them from the sleeves rotting .some are good stuff maybe i will try this! I would never consider playing them like they are at this point.

May 19, 2012 - Water has mineral deposits which I would assume are worse or as bad as the dust. I'm just guessing but the paper towel won't pick up 100% of those minerals. If you are going to use water it should distilled water. Also, soap leaves behind residue.

May 21, 2012 - I recently used this method to clean a 38 Special "Tour De Force" LP that I got for $1.50 at a flea market. Side A was just unplayable even after a good cleaning with the solution and microfiber cloth. The wood glue cleaning made the LP just like new!

silentsniperrr Says:

May 22, 2012 - try to play the glue print on the player :D

gsasfdf Says:

May 23, 2012 - does it need to be a special wood glue or any wood glue

spintheblackcircle4 Says:

May 23, 2012 - Use a mixture of 90% water and 10% ammonia. Put it in a spray bottle and spray the 78's surface, and wipe off with a soft cloth. It cleans em without damage! =)

thomsk Says:

May 25, 2012 - Any PVAc wood glue (polyvinyl acetate). It's basically the white glue that school kids use for scrap booking.

killerdeej Says:

May 28, 2012 - Now play the glue!!!!

jesse1779 Says:

May 28, 2012 - glue would tear the needle right out
