Added: Jul 1, 2009
Author: MotorTrend
Duration: 3:12
Description:
When we first pitted the Camaro SS against the Mustang GT, Ford fans complained it was an unfair race given the horsepower disparity. But now Ford has tipped the scale way back in it's advantage with the top of the line supercharged snake, the GT500. We head to the drag strip to see how the underdog Chevy stacks up.Shot By: Mike Suggett & Jim GleasonEdited By: Jim Gleason & Mike Suggett

May 26, 2012 - b.s they flow less than ls3 heads, 398 cfm at .600 lift. flow tested by muscle mustang & fast ford magazine in an article. they then ported them and only got 5 more cfm than a out of the box ls3/lsa/lsa/l92 head(all 3 are pretty much the same head) for a flow of 335 cfm.
nbmblownZ Says:
May 26, 2012 - the heads on the 402 in my uploads flow 412 cfm, but those are aftermarket.
nbmblownZ Says:
May 26, 2012 - correction the coyote heads flow 298 cfm not 398.
drfaticus Says:
May 26, 2012 - they cant make an engine like the super snake
ALPHADOG3 Says:
May 26, 2012 - chev offers the 426hp for about the same price as the fords 315? what the fuck.............................................. well now you can have fords 412 hp cheaper than chevs 426hp, and win all day long, all day long.

May 26, 2012 - 2013 Roush Stage 3 virtual test drive, it has a 5.0L DOHC with a 2.3L supercharger and is very conservatively rated at 565 hpwatch?v=Kd-uMf7wr3o&list=UUkrJOuLYKodof8d4CIWzxcQ&index=1&feature=plcp
Stangman303 Says:
May 26, 2012 - Oh well that's why its a double SS = Super Slow
TheBulldawg4life Says:
May 27, 2012 - I don't know about a 5.4, GM hasn't produced a 327 HO engine for a while. However the next generation of engines will be in general smaller. DI, VVT, VCT, and AFM (ugh..) are all expected with the next generation too. Show me a 16 valve Ford engine that makes 1200hp on pump gas..it goes both ways with the selective reasons.
nbmblownZ Says:
May 27, 2012 - @1vdn992 i got a letter in the mail from a chevy dealership with 2012 pricing on vettes and zl1s and the zl1 was 62k and 80k for the commerative edition zo6 with sport cup tires, z07 package and interior options. far cry from the prices you quote. thats cheaper than the new gt500 and is 10 times the car.
nbmblownZ Says:
May 27, 2012 - @nbmblownZ oh yeah, they were also offering 0% financing for all 2012 zl1s and vettes.
drfaticus Says:
May 27, 2012 - thats 100% true what you just said.as a matter of fact, insideline says the same thing about the 2013 GT500.they said,In the GT500's defense, the testing conditions weren't ideal. We were testing at a crowded event. By the time we did our first run at Atlanta Dragway, our car had already done nearly 20 passes, so the GT500 didn't quite get the numbers we thought it might. Under perfect conditions and the right driver this is an 11-second car, easy.
drfaticus Says:
May 27, 2012 - also they said,One thing's for sure, it is durable. Proof? Within about a two-and-a-half-hour window, five Shelby GT500s made 152 quarter-mile passes without a single failure. No overheating, no fried clutches, no broken driveshafts.
Quatermain98526 Says:
May 27, 2012 - They scored a really good time with the Camaro, hitting high 12's is great. But a 550HP Mustang hitting a 12.8 1/4 mile? Get a different driver, please...
killmallcore32 Says:
May 28, 2012 - Which is why it went actually pretty close to this GT500, despite the power difference and the video title...Oh, and you may want to get a new screen name.
killmallcore32 Says:
May 28, 2012 - The Supersnake was redesigned by Shelby himself. The fairest comparison would be the SLP ZL1.
killmallcore32 Says:
May 28, 2012 - Your sarcasm went backwards, you made a ridiculous comparison.
killmallcore32 Says:
May 28, 2012 - He was referring to the 2013 GT500 presentation.
TheBulldawg4life Says:
May 28, 2012 - Yet in 2010 (when I purchased my SS) Ford thought $32k was fair for 315 horsepower, and the cheapest GT500 you would find was going to run you upwards of $65k ADM. I just went to Fords website to build an equally equipped GT to my 2SS..it cost $36k, and that's without heated seats, bluetooth, ambient lighting, and a few other small things you simply can't get in the Mustang. My 3 year old model came stock with crap Ford STILL charges extra for.
1vdn992 Says:
May 28, 2012 - The 2013 Mustang GT has been uprated to 420 hp, has a selectshift automatic and a multitude of other new features.
ALPHADOG3 Says:
May 28, 2012 - own a 2011 5.0< the xtra 8 hp means nothing. CAI intake, sct tune, magna flow comps. engine dynos at 502 (not wheels) . I really hate the squinty looks of the new headlights on the 12/13. now I'd be pissed in the 5 lit jumped to a 5.4, it's coming, when i don't know. Select shift? sound to me like no clutch, gay gay gay
nbmblownZ Says:
May 28, 2012 - motortrend has a new vid on the 2013 gt500. it dynoed 580 rwhp, went 11.6 @ 125 and reached a top speed of 196mph.
cademia75 Says:
May 28, 2012 - Is stupid her video
1vdn992 Says:
May 29, 2012 - If you're hard core then put Ford Racings supercharger upgrade on it, 624 hp.
Takahatchi Says:
May 29, 2012 - Indeed he has made a complete ass of himself, I am sure that an assclown like yourself can see that.

nbmblownZ Says:
May 26, 2012 - the heads on the zl1 are pretty much ls3 heads and flow 330 cfm out the box. i have a set myself with a 5 angle vavalve job, light weight vavlve, milled .020 with a stage 1 port job, and flow 365 cfm. ford gt/gt500 heads flow between 280 -290 cfm. i've seen ported ones flow only 310cfm. ls7 heads flow over 380 cfm out the box.
