Apr 4, 2012 - Judo works as a sport self defense and is great for cross training. Also for every pin, joint lock, choke you will see out of BJJ you find it came from and used in Judo. It's a shame people who clearly never practiced or trained in judo will come up with hasty generalization does not work. If your a striker or a ground fighter it wouldn't hurt to cross train in Judo.

Apr 6, 2012 - Huh? Karo gets as many takedowns as any other wrestler during his fights.Do you always see a wrestler do a standing arm throw (which is similar to what Hawn did)? no. All the takedowns wrestlers like Chael Sonnen, Couture, and Jon Jones do are also found in Judo (albeit a bit differently).

Apr 6, 2012 - I think wrestling is more important than Judo, but it's a myth that Judo throws are "hard to do". All it takes is an overhook or underhook to execute most Judo throws... smh

Apr 9, 2012 - actually it is not the case of where your hands are placed my friends, it takes years of tiny adjustments to create a perfect throw without using any energy and using only techique, which means the judoka in seconds has to interept momentum, positioning and timing to create a good throw, I wish it was easy as that but sadly its not.
B3nBo1194 Says:
Apr 9, 2012 - actually sir that history is incorrect, the founder of Judo is creditied to Jigaro Kano, who himself was an expert is traditional JJ (Japanese Jitsu) Kano, changed and used techniques from JJ, to create Judo, to allow a art which uses technique, and momemtum over size and strength, even then in reality the oldest forms of martial arts can be seen through Chinise arts from the Dynasty era (sorry for spelling or grammar mistakes)

Apr 9, 2012 - It can be a difficult transition for some, but it is not due to the nature of the throws, which is what people are saying.Almost all Judo throws can be done with Greco Roman/Freestyle wrestling grips. There is nothing special about, say a harai goshi or an Uchi Mata that you can't do it using your own arms.I personally find uchi mata and harai goshi very easy throws to do w/o a gi. You can do them with more than one grip.
aattitude Says:
Apr 9, 2012 - that you can't do them*

Apr 10, 2012 - I don't need to, I have trained in Judo, I know about it's technique etc.
TheePizzaDude Says:
Apr 10, 2012 - Just because you have trained in it that doesn't guarantee you any knowledge of it's history. I trained in Judo for 4 years and I never had any clue from where it came until I actually researched it myself.
judoka187 Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - If you progress in judo in the belt ranks...the history of judo is mandatory to achieve a yellow belt. Or, in senior ranks a green belt. But, I suppose you can cross-train with judo techniques but it's embarrassing to train within the sport in dojo's without some color around your waist.
judoka187 Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - Rick Hawn is a bad-ass.I trained with him while he was a resident at the OTC in C.Springs. I am confident he will thrive in MMA with his Judo skills. Remember,Judo is one of the most inner rings of defense and that realm is where MMA matches end up. Knowing judo and being good at judo gives a fighter a very important advantage in the octagon just as long it is tied in with stellar striking skills. Not many established MMA fighters can instictively execute a seoi-nagi like he did in that clip.

Apr 25, 2012 - Those kind of hip throws work in about 10% of attempts and only a small amount of those lead directly to a knockout or technical knockout, this is a rare event

May 16, 2012 - There is no better martial art, there is only the state of spirit of the martial artist, one day you win because you are in excellent conditios, in other day you lose because you are not.Jigoro Kano said that, not with these words, but with this meaning
glock70 Says:
May 26, 2012 - Don't forget Hector Lombard Olympic Judo player > moves to the UFC and Judoka Karl Amoussou VS Bryan Baker also a Judo black belt & wreslting Judo is going to make a good showing in MMA

mbluemyst Says:
Mar 31, 2012 - To answer you're question- Judo is so effing hard to execute in an MMA fight. Look at Karo Parisian, ones of the best judo fighters around and he doesn't get too many throws. Don't get me wrong, throws are amazing to see, because they're so rare. And although BJJ has roots in Judo, the 2 are apples and oranges, 2 separate styles.
