Sep 10, 2010 - NOT a little of both, man this is Roy Haynes, not some drummer in your garage. He is on it 100%
botabatiki Says:
Oct 20, 2010 - this rly is alot of noise... could be so much more.. not bad, but could be so much better... jazzpictures you should put the effort you put into criticisms into something worthwhile, doesn't do much to waste your thoughts and efforts on constructing "intelligent" criticisms of some random person on an online video message board.

Nov 7, 2010 - Jazz sounds like 5 people playing a differnt song, 5 people who think they are God's gift to the music world that is!

Feb 2, 2011 - My answer comprises two parts: 1.Yes, he was being really groovy, as only the great Roy Haynes can.2. You may wish to take some introductory music lessons, so that you can become better acquainted with the basic principles of music ( e.g. beat, meter, rhythm, and melody.)Good luck:)

Mar 10, 2011 - All these men were making a living and recording music when you were still in your father's balls. You are a stupid kid with nothing to offer.

Apr 19, 2011 - How old is Roy Haynes here? From his appearance and the energy with which he plays, I'd say... late 40s?

May 4, 2011 - gotta love this kind of raw playing.. Roy doesnt give a flying F about finesse.. just lays it down.. its weird. refined yet bordering on sloppy.. hard to explain. the passion and knowledge of the music is evident throughout

Jun 18, 2011 - Roy's playing here is percussively obnoxious. Intrusive, loud and patently unmusical.Undignified for a Jazz master.

Oct 15, 2011 - He's around 80.

Oct 25, 2011 - Roy Haynes is one of the greatest drummers in history, but he has definitely lost his touch with his age. I feel like everything I hear from him lately is too loud and uncontrolled. He used to have such an amazing gentle touch and still be able to play unbelievably fast. But i suppose it is just to be expected with age. I certainly wont be able to do anything like that when i'm 80.
nordergute Says:
Jan 2, 2012 - @drummerman558 : It seems IMHO to be about artistic choice rather than mere ability, as he has turned his sticks upside down, *and* (at least here) is using a metal snare drum. :)
botabatiki Says:
May 4, 2012 - why don't you all shut the fuck up and acknowledge his hands are kind of shot. so is his hearing and his style. that said it's still pretty good. you don't benefit from hiding from the truth. he is not in his prime, there are plenty of other videos from now and 70s to compare. you're an idiot if you're pretending this is anywhere near his best, just like you're dumb to not credit him whatsoever. i personally think this is garbage for him.... keyword FOR HIM.
