Apr 14, 2012 - Whatever you mean?

MultiJSullivan Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - Well, going past the obvious 'anything a human has ever created for aesthetic value ever is art' point, which doesn't really say anything about merit, videogames are definitely not the 'most complete' type of art by any means. Merit it not something which can be added as a mathematic quantity, videogames may have polygons, pixel art, voice-acting, music etc etc etc but that says nothing about how the final product is pulled together to make a coherent Whole experience.

MultiJSullivan Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - Most videogames have repetitive gameplay, juveniles plots, bad scripting and no cohernet themes or vision, which is fair as they've only been around 30 years and only ever existed inside a highly capitalistic profit-driven framework, as a result they very rarely tend to say, well, anything of value, and if they do only through very clumsy and unintuitive means. Hideo Kojima's idea of theme and meaning in an interactive game is a 45 minute cutscene with little-to-no player interaction and a NPC

MultiJSullivan Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - literally explaining the events, metaphors and imagery to the player. Compare with rich history of cinema and literature which contain countless genres and subgenres, exploring the human condition and society in incredibly diverse ways. In cinema alone you can talk about French New Wave, German Expressionism, Italian Neo-Realism, then into exploitation genres, the vietnam blockbusters of the 80s. People have simply had alot more time AND freedom to explore what can be done with cinema.

MultiJSullivan Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - Games are slowly gettingthere, Braid for example used the core gameplay function to reveal the plot-twist in incredible manner in its last level, Fallout New Vegas made an honest attempt to discuss how society should be formed using severeal ideologies of varying realism. But saying 'games have the most assets and are therefore the most art' shows a very flawed understanding of what artistic merit is and very little knowledge of the other artistic mediums which surround us.

MultiJSullivan Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - Anyway, games are still cool, go games.Because youtube screwed up, please read my post in the order:4/42/43/41/4

VampyricalCurse Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - I cannot agree with this view completely. Considering a bent piece of metal is considered art and I just can't under any circumstances accept that. I think you are delving deeper into something I wasn't even referring to. I also said Art package, which means it CONTAINS many sorts of arts and this is a fact. I understand art, believe me. But in the end, all is in the eye of the beholder. You are free to see it differently as am I.

ZeroPhoenix7497 Says:

Apr 15, 2012 - not every game is art. There is a lot of crap and ppl play that crap

ZeroPhoenix7497 Says:

Apr 15, 2012 - PS: BUT this game isn't

razz526 Says:

Apr 21, 2012 - Crappy art is art

RatchetsGirl997 Says:

Apr 22, 2012 - Why are you people talking about video games being art?Yeah... Video games ARE a unition of many arts invented by man... But what's the relation to this song?

Ju Bi Says:

Apr 23, 2012 - I'm not a game addicted person, however this game was where I have grown up, its a part of me I could not explain,I have almost lost my path if it didn't happen on that day when I walked past my brother's room and listened he was playing Chrono Cross reminiscence song in his room. It's just like a wake up call, more than that. When you caugh up to the daily affairs of the adult world, you forgot how to truly live, however whenever I listen to Chrono cross, i realize, dream and dream passionately...

Pestilence2k Says:

May 2, 2012 - To me, when a song moves you to the point of meditation or reflection, it is a great song. This is the song that does it for me. =)

deadmoon16 Says:

May 12, 2012 - i can listen to this piece for like a thousand times and i dont get bored. It soothes my soul.

ZachAttakk33 Says:

May 17, 2012 - I love the games and the music, but you know I gotta tell you because i learned something. I had a girl who woulda died for me but I hid in my games and neglected her and broke her heart in pieces. I would honor your woman if she doesn't want u to play or break up w/ her if you don't wanna slow down at all. I'd hate for you to end up on a slippery slope like i did dude. Hope i don't sound like a lunatic lol. Take it easy

algiasphere Says:

May 17, 2012 - Manly tears...

MrDreamDestroyer Says:

May 18, 2012 - "I agreed, CoD is what that's ruining the game design, and others thought it is an art, not that I hate the west-games, but now I personally think only Japan's still maintain the art of games"Look at FF13 - Straight forward and bombards you with shitload of effects but the story ain't good and gameplay is only descent, much like COD

tommycatCA Says:

May 21, 2012 - the part where kid opened her past to serge when they were sitting around the campfire. i got that lump in my throat and almost cried, im so grateful for have played chrono cross and i will never forget the time i spent playing it

Phabulouso Says:

May 24, 2012 - This is the song they play when Lucca's Orphanage is burned down right? Yeah, when I was a kid, this song upset the shit out of me.

Ashleymjy Says:

May 27, 2012 - Most of Japan's games suck too. They are in the same rut as most western developers (creatively stagnant, and afraid to REALLY try something new, but 'innovating' in stupid ways rather than remaining traditional), only with their own archetypes. So you have JRPGs that play worse and seem less original than PS1 games from a decade+ ago (and that is NOT nostalgia -- buy an old game you've never played before and see). And a Final Fantasy with a worse story than a cheap, throwaway anime.
