Jan 6, 2012 - someday I'll be that fast...
HariVIyer Says:
Jan 6, 2012 - with running there is no "correct" form per-say. Your body adjusts and just does what feels natural - and what feels natural is usually what is most efficient. You can't say the same about cycling, where your body is utilizing a foriegn, biologically unfamiliar object to move. What a textbook says is correct may not apply to someone who has even the slightest degree of abdominal asymmetry. Our bodies are built for distance running, like any animal we must simply do what feels right

Jan 6, 2012 - I read your comment a second time and I understand your point a little clearer. And you are right, if you regularly run with something that would throw off your natural form (ie. a bookbag) then you will likely develop a counter-productive cadence.

Jan 7, 2012 - I started running with a metronome and a playlist at 180. It took a while for my mind to get used to it on long slow runs. This summer I trained with some folks on the track for the first time. I found that during 800m repeats I was running more like 190 because the brain tries to "solve" the speed prob with faster cadence. I found that I could still do the same pace by dropping back down to 180 -- but it felt easier at 180. For whatever that is worth... :>

May 28, 2012 - Tell me if i'm wrong, but doesn't it defeat the purpose of running on a treadmill if you have a track right there lol.
