From the wonderful summer of 1964, "People" was Barbra Streisand's first hit record. The single peaked at #5 on the Billboard pop chart and spent three weeks at #1 on the Easy Listening chart. The song, from the Broadway musical Funny Girl, written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, was included in the album of the same name recorded by Barbra Streisand for Columbia Records and released in September 1964. The song and album were arranged and conducted by Peter Matz.. I dedicate this to Leona.

Mar 5, 2012 - what a beautiful video, well put together. I was 4 when this song came out and I knew even at such a young age what an amazing talent she has. I asked my mother to play this song over and over and it still haunts me today in the same way.

Mar 20, 2012 - I listen to much heavier music than this, but I in awe of her voice. The best way I can describe it is that it seems like there isn't a single note or syllable that isn't there for a reason. That probably doesn't make sense, but it's the command she has over her voice.

May 1, 2012 - I remember a radio station A.M. K.G.A. or K.G.O. not sure which. Every night at around midnight the D.J. would sign off playing this song ,talking about what was going on around the world. This was Spokan,Wash. in 1967-68 One time instead of signing off he kept playing this song over and over saying he had locked the doors to the studio and was smoking some weed. You could hear in the background the doors being busted open by the cops and he was giving a minute by minute narrative.
