Aug 31, 2011 - @JamesChan187 My discussion between me and @brooklynmonk1 is about the terms to use when refer to the history as follows, "Before 18th there's no nation state, it's the Khmer Kingdom that ruled over this area. And it was ceded to Ayutthaya Kingdom not Thailand. Cambodia and Thailand are a modern nation state. When you stated "Khmer Surin province used to be part of Cambodia" and "it was ceded to Thailand" it misleading people to think Thailand taking Cambodia's land. Read it again please.

sahapoom1975 Says:

Aug 31, 2011 - Surin used to be part of Khmer Kingdom.Angkor was sacked by the Ayutthaya Kingdom and abandoned in 1432.It is in the 18th century that Surin re-emerges. At this time a Kuay local leader named Chiangpum became the royally appointed ruler of the region. According to legend he presented a rare white elephant to the Chao Phaya Chakri, future King Rama I. In gratitude, Chiangpum was awarded the royal title Luang Surin Phakdi and appointed the village headman.

sahapoom1975 Says:

Aug 31, 2011 - When Rama I became the Thai monarch, he appointed Luang Surin Phakdi as the province's governor. In 1763 the village was moved to the location of the modern city of Surin, and was upgraded to a city with the name Muang Prathai Saman. Also, that the original location of the town was at Muang Thi, approximately fifthteen kilometres to the east of the modern city. In 1786, the city's name was changed to Surin in honor of its governor.

Aug 31, 2011 - @JamesChan187 You are so bias and ignorant. I did not arguing with @brooklynmonk1, So he doesn't have to reply all my post and we never talk a single word about Muay Boran vs. Bokator. Don't judge people before you clearly know what they are talking about and don't incite people into confliction, It's too much.

Aug 31, 2011 - Your thai is great :)

brooklynmonk1 Says:

Sep 30, 2011 - @ichibang15549 Thsi style existed before the codification of modern sport Muay Thai in the 1920's. As a result, this qualifies as Muay Boran.

brooklynmonk1 Says:

Sep 30, 2011 - @ichibang15549 Ok I admit publicly THERE ARE MANY STYLES OF MUAY BORAN. So what's your point? Do you think Khmers will like Thai people better if there is more than one style of Boran? The reason I shot this video in surin was because I was looking for Bokator in the Khmer population of Thailand but didnt find it. I did find Adjan Sok Chai who was Tony Jaa;s teacher and in most of Tony jaa's movies.

brooklynmonk1 Says:

Sep 30, 2011 - @ichibang15549 did you hear me speaking Thai? Yes, I hate Thailand so much that I spent two years learning teh language, then another three years studying Muay Thai and boran and Chaiya with as many teachers as I could, traveling all over the country, writing magazine articles and making videos and TV shows promoting Thailand, and I did all of this because i hate Thailand. What have you done for yoru country apart from attacking me?

brooklynmonk1 Says:

Sep 30, 2011 - @ichibang15549 Sorry, I am misunderstanding again, Kyuktooki. are you the Thai fighter who fought against the Tae Kwan Do guy and knocked him out? That's so cool.

Nov 12, 2011 - Ignore him, he's a well known troll.

hazza3 Says:

Nov 12, 2011 - Muay Thai Boran is a tidied up version of Muay Boran(which isn't actually a system). Its tidied up so that many techniques can work with Sports like Muay Thai.

hazza3 Says:

Nov 12, 2011 - Cool video, I wasn't sure if the rumors of Tony Jaa being a Khmer were true or not but it looks like it is. Actually I think I remember you mentioning that he is a Khmer Surin. Funny thing, most Thai people can trace their genealogy to Khmer Roots because of the Angkorians who dominated half of SEA. Most people today don't have a strong Tai lineageAs for Kyuktooki. I've looked into it last year and it actually is a Korean System NOT based on SEA systems but on a Monks martial art 300 years ago

TehBuddaChris Says:

Dec 8, 2011 - Im confused. In the movie "Yamada", it shows Muay Thai but then It looks like there is also Muay Boran

BlueCollarMMA Says:

Feb 5, 2012 - Ohkay, let us clear a few things up:Muay Boran was the combat system taught over the last eon on battle fields to defend Thailand. Muay Thai is the modern sport version of Muay Boran. Both arts are descended from Krabi Krabong, which is a weapons and empy hand system, used for pure combat and defense.Krabi Krabong and Muay Boran are geared towards death as the end result of the exchange while Muay Thai hopes for a clean knock out.Does that clear it up a bit?

lewildale Says:

May 16, 2012 - It's interesting that they chose a filipino song as the sound track for this video.

brooklynmonk1 Says:

May 16, 2012 - I chose the Filipino song because it was politically neutral. If I had chosen a khmer song or a Thai song, that could have caused political problems.

brooklynmonk1 Says:

May 16, 2012 - There is no evidence that Muay Boran came from Krabi Krabong. If you have actual historical data to support this claim, please share it. Today, the Krabi Krabong teachers are normally Muay Boran teachers and vice versa. You are correct that Muay Thai is the modern, sport version of the art.
