Dec 20, 2011 - Part 1: I hear some of critics' notes stating that this film is "a great testament to the patient power of girls and the stupidity of boys" and I wonder how we possibly begin a dialogue about a piece of film or storytelling that way. It shuts it off. It spews an off balance depiction of boys. A bad generalization. The rub is not that it is amateurish storytelling (and it is) but that it's borderline irresponsible.

Dec 20, 2011 - Part 2: I think this short had on me a similar effect that I would imagine chauvinism has on women when they're poorly and inaccurately depicted by men in any art or discipline or daily life. Yes, that has been done too much and for too long (and maybe by the kind of men the boy in the picture will grow to be, or not). Take a look at it again, they couldn't possibly have written nor have this character look and/or behave less intelligently and insensitively if they wanted to.

Dec 20, 2011 - Part 3: I think they really missed making his goal to learn how to ride a bike in order to go get a six-pack of beers. Though I don't discard there are many out there, not all boys are (or grow to be) this obtuse, provincial, destructive and Neanderthalish, neither all girls are (or grow to be) this generous, sweet, emotionally-connected and evolved. The film doesn't hurt, just disappoints and to me is a great testament that anybody with a camera can call himself or herself a filmmaker.
