Mar 8, 2012 - could you 'double tap' with a 44magnum? Or does that kick alot and the shots are just slower?
autosmia Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - The narration and instruction is OK. But, good god, what the hell are you doing wearing your gun belt unsecured like it's a tool belt? What is the make and caliber of your weapon?
shootingcoach Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - Wow, I am always mystified at the comment people leave. No offense dude, but you don't know what you're talking about. That is a competition belt. It has velcro on the inside and you wear a velcro belt through your belt loops. The outer belt is held securely in place by velcro. What the hell are you doing commenting about something that you have no knowledge of? That one is a Taurus PT1911 in .45 cal.
shootingcoach Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - Yes, remember; double tap is a doctrine, not a technique. Therefore you could do it with anything.
shootingcoach Says:
Mar 16, 2012 - So many wannabes. Guess again. The shots all hit the "A" zone. It's simple physics, I'm 70" tall. The target is 60" at the shoulder. In order to hit the center of the target, I must point it at a downward angle. Also, the camera is higher than the target and at an oblique angle.

Mar 16, 2012 - Great video, good group....little Low based off the cut out scoring line. It that was a person, its a belly button shot. They need to be about 10 inches higher and to the right. If you slow down "just a little" they will be better placed. Thank you for being my superior in marksmanship and shooting, tell me sensei.....where Is the heart in relationship to the chest vs.. Your well placed gut shots?
arizonahotairballoon Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - Come on guy, Hes a self proclaimed "shooting coach". After all we are wannabes. FYI you are dead on with your question. Who ever told you that your gear should be close to your body and well secured...Keep going to them. They will keep you alive. PT1911 poor mans colt. We should pass the plate at church 2 times to get Barney Fife a belt that is not sloppy.

Mar 17, 2012 - I very much agree, in fact even rifle cartridges that are considered extremely powerful can have little effect! Recently heard a story of an individual in a hunting accident walking around after being shot by a 30-06 ouch! Shooting is just like real estate, location, location location.
shootingcoach Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - Self proclaimed enough to have been paid to do nothing but shoot competitively. Sponsored by Springfield Armory, Safariland, Dillon and other companies. Shot on the Super Squad for several years at USPSA Nationals won hundreds of matches. So, I think I have just a little expertise. The people who taught me: Rob Leatham (the Gretzky of shooting), Brian Enos, Todd Jarett, John Shaw, Ray Chapman, all world champs btw. So excuse me if I take their word over yours.
shootingcoach Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - The location of the heart is immaterial. You shoot center of mass because it gives you the largest margin of error, not because of the location of vital organs. Two shots in the solar plexus 1/2 second faster than two in the center of the chest is better. A lot can happen in half a second (like your opponent hitting you). Statistically, the person who hits first wins.
shootingcoach Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - Accuracy is not more important than speed. It is a balance. That is why practical shooting has a larger top scoring zone than bullseye. That's why the motto is Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas; Accuracy, Power, Speed. You need a balance of all three. Another thing; Fast is only a verb when you are talking about eating. In shooting, it is a result of actions. It is those action which are important, not shooting "faster" or "slower".
autosmia Says:
Mar 17, 2012 - I did not mean to be offensive. It's just that I see humor in EVERYTHING. I do have knowledge about competitive shooting. I have a few handguns, as far as my .45's I have two. My favorite that I carry is an old Colt Combat Commander. Competively I shoot a Kimber Gold Match II and use Black Hawk CQC holster with a TIGHT shooting belt. When I learn how Youtube works I will post a video. In conclusion, I believe you do know what you're talking about compared to the other crap I hear on youtube.

Mar 17, 2012 - In addendum to my previous post... After reading other comments from viewers about shooting people, everyone is an expert when they're anonymous, such as myself. Fact is that I work in trauma surgery and have seen many people shot with various calibers. Another fact is that many people are not as proficient as they think and do not even shoot at a paper target at an indoor range. The key is to practice, be mentally prepared, shoot at mass, keep shooting until they're down & have second magazine.

Mar 18, 2012 - DVC was a doc taught by Col Jeff Cooper. I started working at Gunsite at the age of 9. It was my first job. DVC is taught Accuracy, Power, Speed in that order. One of the things Cooper said....."You can never miss too fast" Make the hits count. Another thing we teach out there is the balance between them as a triad. I agree with what you said in the last 2 posts. Most double taps are used close up in the 10 yards and in battle. It would be foolish to make two rushed shots beyond.

May 15, 2012 - not sure why everyone is arguing whether caliber X will kill a person or not. A 22 can kill ppl, but that's not the point. you need to know what caliber is most likely to stop an advancing threat quickly. and I believe the caliber of choice is personal. what works for you may not work for me. there isn't one right answer. no silver bullet (forgive the pun) and you should hope the person you shoot doesn't die. the gun fight is your 1st battle. if you survive, your 2nd fight is in a court room.MHO

May 22, 2012 - Great video and teaching, thanks for posting. You break it down into simple components that we can all use to improve our shots. Thanks and hat off to you.

Feb 27, 2012 - Historically, no handgun cartridge reliably stops someone with one hit. I have heard of several hundred times when the .45 hasn't stopped someone with one shot. Pistol calibers do no have the power to reliably stop a threat with one shot. Therefore like an election in Chicago; Vote (shoot)early and vote often!
