Added: Apr 15, 2008

Author: TEDtalksDirector

Duration: 31:8

Description:
http://www.ted.com Biologist Richard Dawkins launches into a full-on appeal for atheists to make public their beliefs and to aggressively fight the incursion of religion into politics and education. Dawkins' scornful tone drew strongly mixed reactions from the audience; some stood and applauded his courage. Others wondered whether his strident approach could do more harm than good. Dawkins went on to publish The God Delusion and become perhaps the world's best-known atheist.TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. May 24, 2012 - Sure we can move it to pm if you like. Just fire away when your ready.

kenpachi337 Says:

May 24, 2012 - It is not an attempt to avoid addressing the point, just an attempt to annoy you... faggot. No, that is not the language my faith teaches me, language isn't taught at all in my faith, we learn that from our parents and also school... are you a retard or something?

kurtilein3 Says:

May 25, 2012 - If they published and featured THIS, why did TED recently decide to censor / not publish a talk about income inequality in the USA? Yeah, that talk is biased against republicans, AS IS REALITY AND SO ARE THE FACTS. And TED just banned it, wont feature or publish it. Its not okay that TED censors a talk about income inequality just based on perceived bias against republicans. Maybe 4 years ago, when this got uploaded, things were different and since then TED lost its principles.

Venusvixen57 Says:

May 26, 2012 - I love Dawkins, but I don't agree that ID is another form of creationism. Don't get me wrong, it holds water about as well as a sieve, but it's a brand of stupidity all its own.

datedder2010 Says:

May 27, 2012 - Bush didn't say that. Hoax and urban myth.

theetrue Says:

May 27, 2012 - Dawkins imagines he and his myopic belief system the target of some form of offensive aggression; most animals respond in like manner, lashing out when they perceive they are cornered; he could play dead and no one would be the wiser, I know he wishes the same for God's own; a reassessment of the situation would be a better course; he is not under attack from God's own.

Desdenova262 Says:

May 27, 2012 - "he is not under attack from God's own." Thank you Captain Obvious! Imaginary things like gods and boogie men cannot attack. But the facts that support Evolution attack your imaginary creation story, huh.Funny how that works.

theetrue Says:

May 27, 2012 - Well that is my question: Why the call to arms if there is no God? what does he have to fear? and even if the God of the Bible were an evil God, wrong will never ultimately defeat right, so why attack mode? Your leader is calling for an attack and you are saying it is not an attack.

Desdenova262 Says:

May 27, 2012 - "Call to arms" is a figure of speech. I only weapon i have been issued is knowledge. The only attacks that have been made are by the religious on science, and education.Dawnkins is simply pointing it out and telling people stand up for reason, logic and knowledge. If you promise not bring religion into science, I promise not bring reason into your church.

theetrue Says:

May 27, 2012 - How's this: The scientific method, natural selection, and evo-lution are true, and the God of the Bible and His Word are true?

Desdenova262 Says:

May 27, 2012 - Better yet, we have empirical evidence that supports Evolution. The Buybull is wrong in so many ways and only proves man wrote stories. And you have as much evidence of your god as the Greeks had for Cronus. Stories.

theetrue Says:

May 27, 2012 - I see I can forget about hoping for unbiased objective reasoning: much of Bible scripture is also figure of speech and not literal, and refers to events that occurred and events yet to occur; what you consider false evidence will prove true.

Desdenova262 Says:

May 27, 2012 - All i'm interested in are the facts and the truth that the facts bear out. This is how i determine reality. It is very sad to see people like yourself being tricked into believing something is reality without evidence. What stops you from believing in Bigfoot?

Yukondano2 Says:

May 27, 2012 - Exactly. I agree that it's ok what people think as long as they don't act on it. The problem is, they have to act on it, because that's what they believe. Pretty difficult not to.

Yukondano2 Says:

May 28, 2012 - I've been taught to respect the beliefs of other people, and I agree with that teaching. I don't want to anger other people because there's no reason to. Except... well there IS a reason to, and that is religion causes alot of problems in the political sector. People need to separate the two, but sadly it's not happening. I suppose we could just "wait it out" and let the non-belief movement grow. You guys think that might work? Other people are doing it for me after all.

DebbaRN991 Says:

May 28, 2012 - Many Americans SAY they are 'non religious' but actually DO believe in GOD just not RELIGION.

derwall2005 Says:

May 28, 2012 - this guy dawkins is a total dick, he tried to steal my bike last year and i caught him picking the padlock. said it was a mistake but my bike was the only bike in the whole street. you twat.

DebbaRN991 Says:

May 28, 2012 - We are All human beings, when we take on LABELS to identify each other by all the different categories of race, religion, age, sexual orientation, economic status, ineffectual level, Politicial beliefs, etc. these Labels become our IDENTITY and we must Defend or Refute the Label. Stand for being a HUMAN BEING; treat others the way YOU want to be treated vs demanding YOUR labels be Respected but to HELL with labels that do not apply to you.

DebbaRN991 Says:

May 28, 2012 - Atheism is a Religion and is as Flawed as any other Religion. Get off the bandwagon of Religion, it is an AGE OLD argument that nobody WINS.. Creationists, Evolutionists stick to the SCIENCE of who/what created EVERYTHING. We humans are MORE than a species of the ANIMAL kingdom where the natural selection of life is, we are also eternal spiritual beings connected to humanity and all living things in HARMONY. When the spirit withIN is bound in chains, the ANIMAL withIN rules.

Desdenova262 Says:

May 28, 2012 - If Atheism is a religion, then abstinence is a sex position. How does not believing in a god or religion become one?Is not collecting stamps a hobby? Is bald a hair color? There is less than 2% difference in your DNA when compared to a chimpanzee. What makes you think your gods special gift?

Tautoulogic Says:

May 28, 2012 - The evolution theory does not imply nor is it in any way related to 'atheism'.This Richard Dawkins has a few screws loose.

Youbian Says:

May 28, 2012 - Do you think he would hold the same views if he weren't an educated man?

DarwinsFriend Says:

May 28, 2012 - > Atheism is a Religion and is as Flawed as any other Religion.

drewthebeastman Says:

May 28, 2012 - This can never apply to my great home country of a Canada. Around the time which the Canadian Charter of rights and freedoms was written it was made clear that special priviliges for the french-Canadian peoples rights in section 29 that provincial funding for catholic schools across the country could never be broken. Therefore it is thankfully unlawful in Canada for the atheistic hopes and petitions against these school boards to ever be passed.

drewthebeastman Says:

May 28, 2012 - Therefore it is the exact opposite of unconstitutional for the priviliges given to Catholics of the Western world.
