Mar 21, 2012 - the idea that this song is about a father and his gay hiv positive son dieing of aids is speculation really and is.based on the connection of the song to David Wojnarowicz, a gay artist who died of AIDS... especially since a lot of u2 fans also get married to this song. it is possible one can be applicable to a great many things. Bono himself in many interviews said that the song is about many things including U2' falling apart and possibly disbanding during the time the song was written.

Mar 21, 2012 - One is about U2's fractured relationship with each other during the time the song was written, the unification of Germany, Bono declining an invitation from His Holiness the Dalai Lama to attend a Oneness festival and in addition quite possibly David Wojnarowicz as well. Many things but first it is about the band itself. According Bono and Edge the song went through many changes and arrangements and in the end it united the band to become as "one" again and not split.
