Title: Bicycle route in the snow, 's-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands)
Added: Feb 8, 2012
Author: markenlei
Duration: 6:51
Description:
This main cycle route from the north of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch (aka Den Bosch) to the center in the south is completely freed of snow and ice during winter. This makes cycling safe and convenient even in winter conditions. The route is 4 kilometers (or 2.48miles) and cyclists have priority on every junction and roundabout for the entire length.

Feb 9, 2012 - Do they salt the bike paths before clearing or has it just the weather got warmer?

Feb 9, 2012 - @juandenz2008, @pwd3679: In the Netherlands, only the slow mopeds that go up to 25 km/h are allowed on cyclepaths within city limits. Those are supposed to be slow (but more than often are not) and can be ridden without helmets. Outside city limits the faster mopeds up to 45 km/h, for which helmets are mandatory, are also allowed on the cycle path. Motorcycles are never allowed om cycle paths. Mopeds and bicycles are not always an ideal combination; there is ongoing discussion about changing it

Feb 10, 2012 - I hope that Amersfoort will follow the example of Den Bosch, it was really not nice to be on the fietspads those past days in Amersfoort. I saw some guys falling on Monday and Tuesday. Thanks for this good video !!!

Feb 13, 2012 - So why is there a two way path on one side and a one way path on the other? Why didn't they convert the 2 way to a 1 way?
markenlei Says:
Feb 13, 2012 - because it can handle more bicycle traffic this way and now you have the choice to cross the busy road-way or not, depending on where you want to go.
MrBfratto Says:
Feb 16, 2012 - Yes I see that. One way paths are safer and take less space then 2 way paths, but 2 way paths can handle more traffic and are more convenient/direct. So how to decide which to use? Or at least how in this case?
alciano33 Says:
Feb 26, 2012 - coz they care about the bicycle route, so they need rules, just like the road

Feb 8, 2012 - With me watching your videos, my heart rate still goes up whenever you go through an intersection that crosses roadways, even knowing that you have priority does not help. Just goes to show just how engrained the auto is in our society here in the states. Thank you for these videos I could watch them all day!!!
