May 21, 2012 - [Buckley] declares that the "thus far invincible aggressiveness of the Soviet Union imminently threatens U.S. security," and that therefore "we have got to accept Big Government for the duration--for neither an offensive nor a defensive war can be waged...except through the instrumentality of a totalitarian bureaucracy within our shores."Seems to me that the USSR was the aggressor, and a geopolitical menace to the US.However, Buckley's proposal above has not been good for conservatism.

If Chomsky is the most influential intellectual alive today, you would think that 1) libertarianism would be more popular and more well-understood and that 2) Obama's administration would not be held in such high esteem by the liberal establishment.You would also think that some liberals would be calling themselves left-libertarians or a variant thereof; instead, liberals continue to claim that they're the answer to conservatives, which is simply untrue.

May 24, 2012 - The facts are easily found by Google search.This is why poseurs like Chomsky prevail- people don't bother to do research.And an objective approach is necessary. Subjective opinion may contain accurate informstion, but is skewed by confirmation bias.

I'm not familiar with Buckley, but in this clip he is no different than those "conservatives of today" you are referring to. I think that's a given, no? Constantly interrupts, begs the questions, changes the subject, falsely accuses his guest of being evasive, ignorant (at least for this discussion), and displays no humility despite his ignorance.

May 28, 2012 - well i've seen buckley in many other discussions and he would argue his point intellectually, which is never really seen nowadays among conservatives. now it's all about talking points. but you're right in a sense--if you're unfamiliar with buckley this clip is not his most shining performance.
