John was one of those people who, no matter where he went, no matter how big the stage was, no matter how accomplished the people around him were, everyone wanted to be like him. A lot of very, very famous people got to where they are just by trying to copy him. John himself went through an early phase where he tried to emulate his own heroes (ex: Dylan) -- but he quickly realized that was bullshit and he was better than them and he paved his own road.
