Apr 21, 2012 - It is called a "sideways snap" and, yes, it's perfectly legal (except in Canadian football). The rules state that the ball cannot be turned prior to the snap and the snap must be a continuous motion to an eligible player(pretty much anybody in the backfield). It doesn't get used in higher levels because it will get the center crushed and leave a giant hole in the O-line, but with younger players the novelty of the sideways snap can leave them standing there clueless...just like in the video.
