Aug 23, 2011 - I love how Stanley Kubrick achieved so much tension in these scenes without dramatic music or camera work. Its a slow burn... You just have a highly trained astronaut in a deadly situation trying to work the problem... Its all in the Keir Dullea's breathing and 'keeping it together' face.

May 22, 2012 - I felt so bad for Hal when he died. He knew that he was soon gone, forever, as opposed to Bowman and probably humans too. But such an advanced computer should have known that the other Hals from Earth will see his errors, and that Bowman will disconnect him after he would try to kill the crew.
