Jul 29, 2010 - The first time I met General Choi I was also a kid. I believe it was 1979. I was a green belt and he judged a pattern competition in which I performed Won-Hyo. I won second place and when I went up to receive my trophy from the hands of the General, I hesitated to shake his hand. When I looked down, I saw that he'd extended a gnarled hand covered with calluses! In those days he smoked and would put his cigarettes out on his knuckles. Awesome!!

Dec 2, 2010 - I'm due to test for my blue belt soon, under Master Ricardo Rodriguez who is Master Ray Rodriguez's brother. I'm still proud of all of my masters though they may not yet be as renowned as Master Choi but i see the same prescence amongst them. I can barely wait to see what heights Taekwondo will take me.
MAVIEGUITARS Says:
Dec 12, 2010 - My question is that, Master Choi is from the South, so do the North Korean know and/or practice Taekwondo? I'm a black belt from 1972, by the way.

NewcomerUSTF Says:
Mar 10, 2011 - Yes, the North Koreans practice traditional Taekwondo and are members of one of the three organizations claiming rightful ownership of the ITF logo and legacy. Although it was controversial, he introduced TKD to communist countries such as the Soviet Union, North Korea, and Vietnam in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Regardless of what you think of that decision, General Choi always said that TKD was for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, or nationality.

Apr 20, 2011 - My name is Thomas Prescott, I train ITF TKD with 8th Dan master David Thiele in North Tonawanda , NY. At Jong Park Institute. His teacher was (and incidentally still is) Grandmaster Park Jong Soo who still runs his franchised schools throughout the states and beyond, I have been studying over 25 years.. In 200 I believe, our school took a "field trip" to Korea and trained with Grandmaster Choi. I regret deeply that I could not go and meet literally. History. Godspeed Sir.
