Jan 23, 2012 - your forgetting that robert johnson sold his soul to help write his songs.....keith got the devil to sell him his soul so the song could be played again...

Jan 23, 2012 - @kfgenius If you are only checking out the "covers" on youtube you are missing some of the best guitarists on the planet. If you ejoy diversity you should check out the acoustic guys on candyrat.com. BTW Keith Richards wrote some great music and that should be enough to consider him a legend, but, IMO he never was a great guitarist. Now here's your curveball. I love the 80's and today's shred but music's finest hour was not the 60's. It was the "big band" era.

Jan 23, 2012 - keith richards is one cool cat

Jan 25, 2012 - I don't think he is one of the best guitarists. But boy he wrote many great songs and looks great on stage, and he is a really nice guy. I'm half way though his new book "Life"And I cant see many other guitarists with such a long stage life as him.

Jan 25, 2012 - @notafraidoffuture we have the same opinion on Dream Theater and Paul Gilbert and guys like him are pretty much what i listen to these days. All i was sayn was that even if keith is not as technical as those shredders its still good to listen to him.Im a guitar player myself and i can play most of keiths stuff in my sleep too but that doesnt make em crap like you said:D
notafraidoffuture Says:
Jan 28, 2012 - @laertixc5 Yes on all counts. I guess I wanted to bring the others back to earth. Maybe he isn't "crap" but I can't stand it when guys like Kieth are held as "one of the best" for their playing. Great writer? Yes. Great chemistry with the Stones? Yes. Great guitarist? i still say no.

Jan 28, 2012 - @imaccuish Playing with "soul" is what people do that are not able to play with skill. IMO It is another word for "lazy". I think people that play with skill are not challenged by "soulful" playing because they out grew it. IMO Its no fun (unless you are just out to entertain people that enjoy that type of playing). A person that ONLY plays slowly and melodically "with feeling" isn't pushing themself.
notafraidoffuture Says:
Jan 28, 2012 - @imaccuish Alvin Lee was as fast as anyone in the late 60's AND he played the blues quite well also. I think he knows something about rock and roll.
gibderfenson Says:
Jan 28, 2012 - @notafraidoffuture only people who always play fast dont push their skills :)

Jan 28, 2012 - @notafraidoffuture he created more legendary riffs than you

Jan 29, 2012 - For me, of course it's just a case of opinion, I'd prefer to hear somebody giving it their personality and feeling than just playing fast stuff they learnt in their guitar lessons. If anything I grew out of playing quick tech stuff that just sounds like pleasuring yourself to give it some spirit, some heart, and some life experience. Modern music for me is usually better when it follows the heart not the head, classical is better for the head...

Jan 30, 2012 - He's still got it. Mr. Richards should be put in a museum if he ever dies.

Feb 1, 2012 - All this talk about Dream Theatre and fast playing.. If you ask people in the street who the lead guitarist in Dream Theatre is, they won't have a damned clue, but Keith; He lives forever. And he probably doesn't give a shit about what people think of him, He plays well enough to make millions. ;)

Feb 3, 2012 - @laertixc5 Well said and may the blues flow in you like water in a washed out old river.

Feb 4, 2012 - Whenever I hear these endless, eternal Internet arguments about the merits and skills of the various players of the instrument that I'm betting every one of us posting here loves, I can't help but think of two hugely important points, - The song is what matters the most, not technical ability, unless your goal is to impress other musicians, and to argue about who is "the best" to me shows musical immaturity. There is no "best" only "favorite."
theshowmecanuck Says:
Feb 5, 2012 - I think the best blues musicians I've met will shit on you if try to tell them 'somebody' is 'the best'. I think the closest you can come is to say you would be hard pressed to find someone better. Each person has their own way of doing things. And as far as blues goes, real blues men will give you more credit if you can figure out your own way of doing things, your own style. Even if it sounds similar or the same; and if you play a song a little different each time depending on how you feel.

Feb 5, 2012 - This is just flat out good. And no one has done more to give credit to the creators of this music than Keith Richards.

Feb 8, 2012 - @laertixc5 That not afraid of the future guy really has to chill out, he's spreading loads of bad vibes on this awesome video. Keith is iconic because he represents and is symbolic of the idea of simply "carrying on" and surviving, as well as following one's heart and doing what you love, Keith's attitude towars guitar could really be applied to anything, come to think of it. It is about ART, not ability.. Laertixc5 basically got it right, but I felt I had to throw in my two cents.
AMN3SiAc20 Says:
Feb 11, 2012 - I don't even know what the hell you are all talking about. This video is for Robert Johnson, even Keith knows that. Shut up and take a breathe of blues.

Jan 23, 2012 - @notafraidoffuture Most of the youtubers can only imitate the music created by your "average" guitarists. There are a ton of pianists who are more technically brilliant that Chopin, or Beethoven, or Brahams, but who created the music? I can play their music on piano easily, but I would never have the gall to say I'm better than them. You have a one-dimensional attitude about the guitar. Most guys I know like that are painfully limited players. Respond if you want, I'm done.
